I think you’re a few days behind.... he played great vs Columbus and I’m not sure NYR should trade him.

The only way I see them sticking with him is if they try and pull an islander move and try and split between goalies

A 1st, eh?

Please note the reasons why you think that should be a possibility?

My reasons why it shouldn’t are, as follows:
-3+GAA
-League average save %
-9 games played.

I realize that those stats don’t completely tell the story of how good, or not good a goalie is, but why the heck would anyone give up a 1st for a guy that’s not even the second best goalie in the Rangers organization?

Because the Rangers have three goalies that would be the number one goalie on most other teams. Do you really believe a team in need of a goalie cares the slightest that the Rangers have two other number one goalies in addition to the goalie being traded?

Because the Rangers have a goalie prospect in the AHL (Igor Shesterkin) that's ready to dominate the NHL and if he's not promoted soon, he may go back to the KHL. Lundqvist has a no movement clause and when his contract expires at the end of the following season, he'll probably sign another contract with the Rangers. NYR is crowded at goalie.

I understand why the Rangers might be "forced" to trade him but doubt if they really want to. If Georgiev is "offer sheet eligible" is at risk of being signing one next summer. Rangers cap situation might be even worse next season. Believe about 4.3m offers sheet is just costs a second rounder.

where are you pulling these stats?
He's played in 12 games this year (11 started), with a 2.98 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Overall his numbers ar 55 games, 2.97 GAA and a .916 save percentage -- keep in mind that the rangers give up 3.26 goals per game

Look at young goalies traded for 1st round picks, Martin Jones (also got Kuraly), Grubauer (bought out Orpik and still had to give up a 2nd round pick), Varlomov (1st and 2nd round pick) etc.. the rangers should get a return of a 1st if Georgiev keeps up the strong play (he's probably one of the youngest goalies to have as many 35+ shot against games as he has, 26 of his 55 games with a record of 12-11-3 in those games)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Rangers resign Lundqvist to a contract for 2-3 years at $3-$4 million per. Assuming he's still playing the way he's currently playing right now in a year and a half.

Impossible. Super tight in 21, same in 22, then make a *23 team*, we'll need over 20m for raises and bonuses! The things we trade this year have to net us young forwards, not Zucker types, nor are we resigning an unneeded loyalty senior backup.

NYR could afford 2 years at $3 million per.
