Vejdemo

Description
Habs have a ton of center prospects. I asked them what they thought of the guy leading Laval (AHL) in points. They're not that high on him.

Granted, if he got called up to the Habs, he'd be one of their older centers already, and not one of their better ones... but in Washington I think he'd have a shot at a call-up and be one of the more promising forward prospects on the AHL squad?

  1. Vejdemo, Lukas
Additional Details:
23 year old Swedish center leading Laval in points. Adding his 14 points to Hershey's total (if it works like that) could raise their offense to third in the Atlantic, and give them more of a chance to make the playoffs. He also might have more call-up opportunities with Washington than with Montreal, and he might find more Swedish-speaking veteran centers to mentor him.
MTL
The Habs fans I asked were divided about whom the team would want. Everyone they thought could work is listed at right wing below. Given the Caps are pretty solid at RW, with Leason on the way, maybe they could best afford to lose Clark or Sutter? I don't know who adds what to that. I'm thinking the Caps add a late round pick, but someone help me out?

What happened to Lucas Johansen ? You guys seemed pretty high on him for a while but he doesn't seem to be living up to the billing. Did injuries slow him down, or was he not deployed properly by the coaching staff ? What's the read on him ?

He's not getting power play time because the team has a Stanley-Cup-winning offensive defenseman in Christian Djoos. They let their AHL ringer walk last summer and then demoted a different one, for cap reasons. So Johansen's numbers still aren't great. No reason to write him off, though.

Ok, well given the Habs lack of depth in LHD he's probably the guy I would target for Vejdemo.

Cool. Johansen's been out for a week or so. When he gets back to producing a little bit, and earns a cup of tea in the NHL, his value hopefully goes up a little, and at that point the Caps might prefer to save him up for the deadline. In the meantime, this annoying Caps fan thinks they should consider any of:

    Vej+3rd,

    Vej+Alain,

    Vej+Primeau for LuJo+5th (VGK, 2021)

    Vej+Brook for LuJo+5th (VGK, 2021)

    Vej+Poehling for Lujo+2nd (Col)?

Not that the Caps need center prospects ahead of McMichael, but they just have too much depth at LHD to develop everybody properly, and I think the Habs have extra depth at center at all levels, so if there's a way both teams can improve...

    I agree it seems like a win-win.

Primeau, Brook and Poehling aren't players MTL are interested in moving right now. They are very high on all 3 and fill needs that Habs will have soon (replacing Petry, strengthening C depth, and a potential successor to Price). Vej+Alain and Vej+3rd would be good for MTL though. I value Alain at around a 5th round pick so Vej+3rd would probably be best for you guys.

Thanks. That makes sense. Half the return of trading Vejdemo might be increased ice time for Poehling and Evans to develop faster. Not that you need them any time soon, behind Danault, Domi, Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, etc.... but at worst they're terrific trade chips, and at best they'll surprise us all..

I'm sure the Caps don't want to take away too much ice time from their other decent center prospects, but Alain is off to a surprisingly good start this year and Hershey isn't. Still, stockpiling a few more picks could be tempting, with cap worries and expansion worries.

Smarter Caps fans, what do you think? Is there a different option I'm overlooking? How far off am I on all this?
