how in any way does this benefit nyr? losing.out on skej who is top 4 with top 2 ceiling and georgiev with starter potential and elite ceiling for a middle 6 winger and a 5th defenceman?

That's probably a good trade for "on ice value". But I don't think the Leafs want to trade the cost efficient and good Dermot for the Skeji. Dermot makes every partner he plays with better, and you say that Dermot even if he limited amount of games played this year has been the Leafs 2nd best Dman.

This trade doesn't give Toronto the help they need and they have no way of fitting it under the cap.

Switch Skjei for DeAngelo and the Leafs would probably add more. You have more right side depth anyway.
