At least the free agency moves are reasonable. The trades though...

Why would the Devils trade their starting Goalie for a 4th line player?

I mean, when you make poor trades and overpay depth guys it is not surprising that there is a cap issue.
In terms of projected salary caps, the NHL has come out and said it would normally project as $84.5 million, but part of the discussions on limiting escrow might mean it only goes up by a fixed amount (2 mil) for the next two years. Seeing that we should assume a cap of $83.5 million.

I think you can get Mik on that contract for a 3rd or even a 4th year, but the aav is about right.
Dermott is likely going to cost more than that, say 3@3 ish or 7@4.25 ish
Blackwood is ass. Don't trade for him, let alone overpay him.
Timashov wont be back. Marchment and Engval are just better in every way. Only reason he is here is he'd be lost to waivers.
ffs anyone other than the goat. He doesn't fit with this team. He is a #5C. You can get better guys in UFA for cheaper (Engval is also a centre).
Bracco needs to have a big off season to make the team, and I think he wont command that contract given he has done nothing at the NHL level. Maybe a 1 year 750k deal (which would increase his chances of playing).
You can likely get Holl for 850k or somewhere in there. He has been a 3rd pair NHLer for all of 30 games.
Demelo is overrated af on this site. He is a 3rd pairing guy and I would not give that money to him. He is worth something between 800k-1.25M (although i'd bet someone will give him that deal you proposed).
If Muzzin will take that I am game. I need to see more out of him tho. He has looked off recently.
You can get cheaper depth than Archibald (Namely Moore).

Miller has had how many chances at getting a tp 4 spot and continues to be scratched, so why would the Leafs trade an asset for him and take on that contract when we are cap strapped? This isn't a team that can afford to experiment with reclamation projects like the Sens can (Namestikov for example). Trading Kappy for him is also a gross overpayment.
See above, don't move Moore for Blackwood.

I like what the goat brings and he is cheap, is it just me or did sandin and Lilly die?

Oh yeah. Totally missed he didn't have them on the squad.

I have to disagree about Goat. He has been better than expected in that he isn't a total bust, but every time the puck hits his stick the play dies (in a bad way).

I like what he does without the puck. Personally I would like to see engvall moved up the lineup. That would only happen if a trade is made with Johnsson, Hyman or mikheyev in the offseason.

Don't think engval has shown enough to warrant being up the Lineup, and they have been training him as a centre for awhile now. Use him like one. He'd be a perfect 4c who can fill in up the Lineup for an injury

I would rather him on 3LW, too creative for a dump and grind line.

Because that’s all I want that line to do... for 5-8 minutes every game... I want to see Matthews and Tavares over 20 minutes every night.

How about they try to... score for those minutes instead?

It’s about offensive zone time. Using gauthier to win defensive zone draws get the puck low in the offensive zone and force other teams weak lines to ice the puck. Then bring in the big guns.

I don’t want a great 4th line that plays 12-15min a game. I want a 4th line that can provide energy.

He facilitates it. He is great at faceoffs and trapping pucks low. He is also good on the defensive side.
