McGinn and a 3rd alone should do it. Wood isn't what he was hyped to do.

Here's the thing, though: he's really only had one bad season. This is essentially a buy-low flyer. When he's on his game, that contract is quite team-friendly.

You don't put bounce back, buy low candidates on the fourth line.

Short-term, you almost certainly can, especially when your team is a contending one, which the Canes IMO are. Hopefully, he plays well enough that he gets promoted to Staal's line, which I think is his best fit.

still, he doesn't meet the criteria of a buy low candidate when you're paying that much for him. Gauthier isn't the best prospect in the league but he's worth more than a potentially overpaid bottom sixer, not to mention the other assets passed the other way. If I was CAR, I'd part with McGinn/similar and a 3rd and that's it

My MO with trades is that prospects are overvalued by fans, and that usually the fair asking price involves one more future asset than fans expect. Nino for Rask trades don't just grow on trees.
