If they were both pending UFA's sure, but pass with the term left on leo's contract.

Just get the Islanders to retain half his salary and now its a pretty smart deal for both teams. Islanders don't need him and can just park Ceci in the press box and walk him out the door in the offseason and they also get out from under another 2 years and 6 million in cash to Komarov. TO gets some sandpaper and at a somewhat reasonable price. If he doesn't pan out, you can probably dump him somewhere else next year easily enough at 1.5 million.

It'd have to be half, even at that Leo isn't worth his contract, but at 1.5 he's not a huge hinderance.

Why do this? Can just continue to play Timashov in the same role who’s a lot cheaper and close to 10 years younger.

Wouldn't you rather have the cap space? We could bring up 2 young players like Korshkov and Marchment for around the same price to give us grit.

Pass, because of term, and the fact we would need a RHD coming back....unless you would want to add Mayfield to the trade?

Eh. With holl emerging in happy to have Dermott and Barrie as top two Rd. We can figure out 3rd.

That being said I would not be interested in Komo without serious retention.

The more I think about this, this makes no sense.

Bringing in more toughness in our third and fourth line won't make any significant difference. He isn't good enough to play top 6, maybe third line.

We have guys like engvall and Korshkov who can play a similar role on the fourth for cheaper. At 32 he hasn't been more than a 25 point player for a few years.

If we want to toughen the team up it has to be on the top two lines and/or top 4 defenseman.

I wouldn't be against trying out Rielly and Dermott but I would be worried that Dermott may be in over his head. He would be playing against the toughest matchups night in night out while playing increased minutes and being tasked with covering up for Rielly's defensive shortcomings.

That's alot to ask of a young developing D IMO. I think he has all the makings of a top pair D one day, but I would hesitate to put that much responsibility on him at this stage of his career. Plus if Dermy is on the 2nd pair next year that just means our D is that much stronger because we found a better partner for MO.

I'm not interested in Komo at all, even with retention. I would much rather pay a couple of younger players that money to bring grit instead.

Or even take a run at Reaves in the off-season with that money instead.
