Unless the pens get insane value back, I don’t think they trade either goalie. Both pending free agents are RFA’s and if a team wants to offer them a big contract then the pens would get better compensation for that than what they’d get in a trade.

Agree, it doesn’t make much sense for the pens to trade Jarry or Murray this season unless the return is too good to pass up. Have to pick one during the offseason, I don’t see a team offer sheeting either

It will all depend on what Murray does the rest of the season. Hopefully Jarry’s play motivates him to start playing better again. The pens have all the control on both players though. I think they offer Jarry a cheaper bridge deal tbh. Murray they can just QO. Especially if he doesn’t pick it up and tell him to prove that he’s worth it. If anyone offer sheets him, the compensation will be more than we’d get on him in a trade. If he doesn’t want to accept a QO then the pens could try to trade him. Or offer him a bridge deal worth around 4.5-5 million.

I’m not really considering the idea a team would try to offer sheet either, as offer sheets are pretty rare. If Jarry continues with his play the rest of season, Pens are looking at a deal similar to what Binnington got, and say Murray signs QO. Now Pens have to think about, does desmith clear waivers again after the preseason roster cut down? Do we ride Jarry/Murray again all season and risk losing one for nothing to Seattle or trade other assets to Seattle so they don’t pick either. Personally I think Jarry was always the intended heir apparent to Fleury so in the offseason, Pens resign him and trade Murray’s rights to a team who’s looking for a starting goaltender and run a tandem of Jarry/Desmith. It’s why I’m saying a decision should be made in the offseason because their value will start to go down in trade when teams know they can’t afford to lose one to Seattle for nothing
