Not sure how this helps Columbus. Ceci is a free agent who probably does not sign next year, Savard has 1 year left and Anderson is a RFA at seasons end.

Maybe if Toronto added a 2nd this would work

Toronto would need to add something. Ceci has no value right now. It’s not a great contract for the player he is.

Toronto would most likely have to add more to the trade. Ceci has value to Columbus if the plan becomes get as good of lottery odds as possible. Plus in easier minutes playing behind Jones, he would look better than he has in Ottawa and Toronto I think

Ceci has less value to Columbus. He’d be our 3rd pair right side d.... Jones and Nuttivaara are bother better and would play more. Ceci is 4.5 mil for a 3rd pair dman. So yes he bings value to the team, but the 4.5 mil cal hit washes that out, thus Ceci has no value

Columbus isnt good tho. It's pretty much a cap dump at this point, they have so much cap space that they should be taking on bad expiring contracts to get picks. I'm not saying this is a fair trade but it is the type of trade Columbus should be making

Let's not be too hasty here.... If CBJ is willing to make this trade (which I do get your point) I'm game! Hell, I'll even throw in a 2nd or 3rd.

If it’s a smart trade yes, but this isn’t just a cap dump trade.... you’re asking for something back in it, something that has pretty decent value too...

How about Ceci and a 3rd for FC?
Columbus can then retain on Ceci and flip him to a desperate team for a 3rd at the deadline.

I found a site called baseball trade values it's like CF only for baseball and they assign numbers to each player based on their value. You have to take the ratings with a grain of salt though, before Maile was released he had a 6.8 rating and Giles only has a 3.4 IIRC. Anyways didn't know if you knew about it or not but thought I'd let you know.

That’s why I said Toronto would have to add more. And that Ceci has value if Columbus decides to tank for best lottery odds possible. Ceci cap hit is pretty irrelevant to Columbus since they aren’t in a cap crunch and almost half the real dollars been paid already

We don’t want Ceci.... I’d we are going to tank you might as well let the you get players play. Plus we have 2 of our top 4 d out right now.

Columbus has no reason to want Ceci, we have plenty of d, heck we have 9 on the roster right now.... so adding Ceci does nothing for us or him. He likely wouldn’t any playing time.

So they're trading an upside Anderson playing like **** and a better Savard but with only 1.5 years left for a pending UFA Ceci and the best player in the trade, Johnsson. Who plays on the LW which they need

It's not a great contract but he's a fine player if in a more appropriate position. I think he actually makes sense in Columbus. I think he is a fine #2 RD and a good #3 RD. He is paid 1.5-2 million too much. But I suspect Columbus could rehabilitate his value in half a season of easier but not easy minutes behind Jones and trade him for a second ish with retention at the deadline.

But your right. I'll add some future value

I'd do this trade in a heartbeat. Anderson brings a physical element that our team can use, sure he's not playing great right now but he'd be a buy-low candidate and Savard is underrated IMO. I like Johnsson but I'd make this move all-day.

You see sometimes in trades, a rebuilding team will take on a bad but expiring contract to add assets from a cap strapped team. Again Toronto would have to add more to this trade idea. Probably a mid round pick and two prospects or a single upper tier prospect Columbus was high on perhaps. Ceci would just be a throw in. One that could be flipped again at the deadline since he’s the kind of RHD depth that teams always seem to want at the deadline. No one is saying Ceci would be the centrepiece of a trade between these two teams
