Keefes Leafs with BIG DEFENSE MOVES PIETRANGELO

Description
Pietrangelo takes hometown discount, obviously the term isn't ideal for ageing player but he's exactly what the leafs need in this window.

Had to give up a lot for Pesce. Obviously losing top prospect in Lilegren hurts, but his trade value in real life isn't as high as his value in Chel (sorry guys). + Every team knows the Leafs need stay at home RHD who can play their uptempo style, Dubas is gonna have to give up a lot to get one of the few RHD's who fits the bill. Carolina will hate to lose Pesce, but their D corps will be fine, + Lilegren will 95% be NHL ready by next season. Johnsson is a stud and we will miss him.

Dubas makes the Bracco for Georgiev trade during the 2019-20 season. Leafs are deep at RW and Bracco is expendable. Rangers take gamble on him, and they have Shesterkin NHL ready so they don't need Georgiev.

If you think that cap hit is high for Mikheyev, guy is on pace for 46 points. Guy seems to love Toronto and I think Dubas can get him on a sweet bridge deal here.

Had to sign Luke Schenn for a league min just for the story. Took a gamble on Boedker for league min because it sounds like a Dubas-esque move.

It's pretty obvious from this season that the Leafs need to invest some serious assets/$$$ into some defencemen that can actually, you know, defend. I like this team a lot.

If you want Pesce you are going to have to give up Marner (50% Retained salary) + picks per most Canes fans.

ok I understand that Pesce is valuable but come on now..., this is a pretty solid offer: you get Liljegren who has the potential to replace pesce, plus a solid middle 6 forward and a pick

Carolina is a playoff hunt team trading Pesce for a future and another LW is stupid. Both teams decline

While I would not trade Liljegren, you are right. The value is there. Canes fans would come off being greedy asking for more.

I think Liljegren has the potential to be better than Pesce. He’s quicker, got more agility and can move the puck. However, Canes fans want Matthews +.

It is solid but it does not help Canes at all so they decline. If Lilly was as good as Leafs fans think he is he’d be their solution and they would not need to trade.

Georgie trade is laughable. Bracco is far more likely to be the next Petan than he is a quality middle 6 option. He’s a secondary piece not the primary. Make the 4th a 2nd and you are in business.

Canes can replace Pesce in Free Agency (Shultz, Barrie, Vatanen etc). They're not gonna land Hall and they have a need for another Top 6 forward, + Johnsson has great, cheap contract and he's a better bet than overpaying for any ageing middle 6 forwards in free agency. I think some of the criticism of Lilly is fair, but I think he's still viewed around the league as a prospect with top 4 upside (he has all the tools to become that). That being said, Pesce is probably most underrated D man in the league, so it may take a Nylander to make this trade (not worth it for Leafs, Willy's cap hit looking real nice now).

You might think Georgie trade is laughable, but Shesterkin has option to return to KHL and he may force the Rangers hand and get a call up, making the 3 goalie situation untenable. Looking around the league, there aren't many teams who would give up a 2nd round prospect who has dominated the AHL for a backup goalie. Leafs could even add Timashov to the trade if Bracco and pick isnt enough.

IMO Georgiev can get far more in a trade. But despite signing Pietrangelo the Leafs will still be very cap heavy in so few players. Those RFA signings seem very low...all just sign Pietrangelo. Leafs need cap space, gotta trade some real money from the forward position. Going with a 21 man roster again....no thanks.
Hometown discount....nonsense. Pietrangelo and his home in now St Louis.

Doesn't help them now but certainly makes their future even brighter than it already is, they're a young team so trading away pesce would not be the end of the world. If they got offered this and refused they'd be fools
