I dont think this can work but want to try it out anyway

Description
La should be throwing the towel in on this year. Doughty is incredible but he isn't young so trading him for futures needs to at least be CONSIDERED. Not done per se but considered.

Toronto could desperately use an RD of his caliber and he is from southern Ontario so you'd think a deal could be made.

The problem is his contract. It's huge and it will have diminishing returns over time. I wouldn't want to give up that much because he's near the end of or at the end of his prime with a huge contract. LAs outlook will probably be he's a Norris caliber d man so we want a king's ransom. I suspect bridging those outlooks will be impossible. But here's a try

Yeah. Never gonna happen
But on NHL 20 I think Liljegren and Sandin would be enough, because for some reason value comes first, then overall rating

IMO folks put way to much emphasis on a players hometown area. Doughty has lived away from his parents since he turned "pro" with Guelph. Doughty's favourite team as kid, the closer to London Detroit Reds Wings. I can't see how Doughty can much that much difference to the Leafs by trading away futures. Gee, Doughty can't even help his own Kings content in the past few years.

As a Kings fan and Drew Doughty advocate, I just don't see him as the solution to Toronto's RD problem. Those assets can be better put elsewhere; for half the cost (both trade and future) you could have a young developing RD with almost as much talent who would be useful for many more years. Don't you think Bracco, Liljegren and the first could get you Rasmus Andersson or MacKenzie Weegar or Philippe Myers or Anthony DeAngelo, or someone similar?

None of those guys are likely to ever be in the realm of Doughty.

Also I have to ask what team are you a fan of?

You state your a kings fan here, I saw you say we on a ducks post, I thought you were a Leafs fan at one point and your name says nyi fan...

The southern Ontario thing was just a toss in. Also as someone who lived in London for 8 years I met a bunch of people who knew him. Sounds like he was an arrogant prick. Haha

I agree with you that none of those guys are the equal of Doughty. But my point is that the Maple Leafs don't need someone like Doughty -- they need guys like the ones I listed.

Consider me a fan o f the Ducks, Kings, Wild, Islanders and Maple Leafs. I like teams facing challenges. I would have a soft spot for the Oilers, too, but I'm still bitter about 1984.
