Trying to kick start a short rebuild

Description
So I figure Galiardi and MAYBE Khaliyev may be about NHL ready, but Turcotte and Akil Thompson still need a year or two. But they should be fairly hopeful that they have good pieces coming for this team from 2020-2022. Essentially I would say this year is done. Next year should be a rebuilding year with a mix of cheap vets, vets they can't trade and starting to bring in youth, and 2021-2022 they should be trying to win again with their youth starting to play bigger roles.

So to me that means you trade Brown
You CONSIDER trading Kopitar and Doughty if the right deal exists (as they'll be starting to decline in 2 years and harder to trade. Think like Getzlaf).

I doubt Quick is tradeable but if he is trade him, otherwise hold him while the team stinks and probably buy him out when cap becomes more important in about 2 years, or just ride his contract out
Trades
1.
LAK
  1. Johnson, Jack
  2. 2020 1st round pick (PIT)
  3. 2021 1st round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Save them from the ridiculous Johnson contract and give them a tough winger to play with Crosby or Malkin. They have no choice but to continue going for it while those two are in the league.

Two firsts for it!
PIT
  1. Brown, Dustin ($2,900,000 retained)
2.
LAK
  1. Ho-Sang, Joshua
  2. Komarov, Leo
  3. Wilde, Bode
Additional Details:
The islanders are near the top in the league because of great tending and defense. They're barely scoring. Again taking a shitty contract back to increase the return
NYI
  1. Kovalchuk, Ilya ($3,000,000 retained)
  2. Toffoli, Tyler
  3. 2020 4th round pick (CGY)
3.
TBL
  1. Martinez, Alec ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
For a retained Martinez and taking cobourns contract they're getting palat
4.
LAK
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (MTL)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (MTL)
5.
LAK
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Any team trying to improve their depth for a playoff run on LD with injuries or need
6.

KaLiyev isn't close to ready, he plays am extremely junior friendly game, just stands around waiting for Jenik to feed him the puck, and his shot alone is good enough to beat junior goalies, but as galchenyuk has found out, you need more than just a decent shot to beat NHL goalies

What do you consider to be a short rebuid? The Rangers are in year two but still a it away from contending.

I have no idea why I said short. It won't be short.

I guess the only question for me re its length are Doughty and Kopitar. Depending on how long it will take should answer if they should trade them

Eh. Getting rid of Johnson will cost a first. Brown at half price is the other first. May be a little much, but I don't think so. It's the kind of thing Rutherford has done. Anything to keep this window open

I think all of your trades are overly optimistic in the Kings' favor, and I'm a Kings fan.

What makes you think that Jack Johnson's contract is so terrible that Pittsburgh would pay Marleau money to get rid of it? He can be bought out for almost 2/3 less than his cap hit for the next two years, and if you assume that the Pens won't re-sign Galchenyuk or Schultz, they aren't close to being in cap trouble next year. I don't think you could get ONE first for taking Johnson and sending Brown -- and I love Brown.

Wilde for Toffoli would be a coup. The Islanders are at the bottom of the cap table, so they don't care about Komarov's hit; therefore, thinking they would trade Komarov and Ho-Sang in return for a fourth and taking roughly half of Kovalchuk off our hands (thereby using up a roster space) is, to put it mildly, awfully hopeful when we already have the benefit of sneaking Wilde away from them.

Forbort won't get a second when he's already spent the first third of his last season under contract on the IR; Hutton won't get more than one third; and I get the idea Tampa Bay thinks they're fine the way they are currently constituted.

Thinking that Buffalo would trade away that much of their future for Anze isn't realistic. You're acquiring those three assets because they are prime ingredients in a rebuild, right? Well, Buffalo is thinking exactly the same thing because they aren't anywhere nearer the playoffs than we are.

Brown at half retained. The pens spent a first on Reaves. Brown is a lot better.
