Why would NJD retain on Vatanen? if anything it would be the leafs retaining on Ceci.

Because the Devils are selling to the Leafs at a premium ... and don't care about cap space for 1 playoffs they won't be playing in ....

Vatanen isn't worth anything near that BTW ... he's another offensive d-man with meh defense ...

Toronto wouldn't trade for him ... especially at the price.

Upgrading Ceci to Vatanen for 1 playoffs isn't worth anything near Bracco (2nd) + 2nd + 4th ...

But Toronto has been playing much better than Edmonton since the coaching change.

- Sam Points % but Edmonton has played 2 more games ... and they're trending DOWN while Toronto is trending UP.
- Toronto has a +3 goal differential on the season ... Edmonton has a -3 (in a much weaker division).
- Toronto has played without Marner / Tavares a lot of the season (imagine Edmonton without Mac-D and/or Drai).

One will make the playoffs for the 4th straight season ... the other will not.
