I'd add Bracco if needed.
Would you?

I can get behind this. Btw for the Pens fans who can't figure it out, Hutchinson plays in the AHL meaning no cap hit.

So bury him too this year and have no cap hit year.

And then what happens if Jarry or Murray get hurt and now they have Hutch as a backup? Zero reason to do that trade

I’m sure someone who knows something about hockey would disagree.

Now someone gets it. That is why Hutch is in the deal. Chances are he’s not as bad as his stats say. I know dubas is still holding on till the team plays in front of him.

His ahl numbers are far better than desmiths. This is just the manditiry backup trade. There is a high probability that desmith gets lit up like a Christmas tree in Toronto.

Ceci is better than Irwin. I just can’t justify trading a top 4 Dman (who on your team would be a number 5 guy) with retention for a buried bottom pair guy.

The plan moving forward would be letting ceci expire and moving in Allard next season.

What about this Ceci trade?

You said Ceci is better than Santini. So why do the Leafs want to downgrade their fragile defence.? I have yet to see a Ceci trade where the Leafs trade Ceci and his 4.5m cap and get a cheaper, equal or better Dman in return. Hence, there won't be any Ceci trade.

This is a cheaper Dman who can do bottom pair this year and possibly move up to the 2nd pair next season. Either way he is signed for another year cheaper than ceci. Leafs have Holl Barrie and even Dermott that can play top 4 rhd this season. This trade allows us to afford desmith if Hutchinson is moved and unable to bounce back. That would be 1 Ahler and one nhler for two nhler so even the @palhal math works. Gives us another Dman for next season signed cheap.

If a follow your logic, there is no reason Nashville does the trade because they have a cheap 3rd pairing Santini that has a bit of term left.

They have allard who is better and cheaper for next season. Personally I think Santini is better than Irwin too. But they are not playing him.

Palhal I have met all criteria... stop trying to find something wrong....lol. If anything Toronto adds a mid pick but I just don’t see the logic in that I’d he is being buried anyway. Would bring a big physical presence to our blueline. Think he would also fit well with his creativity on a keefe team too.

I'm not trying to find something wrong, but I'm trying to find something right. I fail to understand the logic if Santini is NHL good, the Preds would trade him away for an a more expensive expiring contract in Ceci.

The expiring works. They have extensions kicking in. Santini being buried costs them 360k. It certainly isn’t doing anything to raise his value. Ceci hasn’t been horrible. I think the retained salary makes him an asset worth playing.

Why the preds aren’t playing Santini is beyond me. Could be that they do not want him paired with hamhuis. Where in Toronto he would be paired with the speedy smooth skating of Dermott.

Totally agree with you.
I made a similar scenario but gave assets as well to get Walker from the Kings.

This is the better idea though.

Walker might be a tough one. Kings are rebuilding and a good young rhd would be something to hold on to.

True, which is why yours better.

I also did 50% retention on Ceci, gave 3rd and unsigned prospect too.

No one posted any feedback on it though.
