Salary Cap Mode: Basic

WSH deal provides a good term back up with a decent cap hit (Who was not going to get ice time with the Caps). Wilson brings his toughness, and can even out up points (20 so far this year). He will also (and this is the most important part) protect his teammates. Plus he's a Toronto born kid.

Due to the points made above, the Caps will reluctantly let Wilson go. However, a playmaker in Nylander who can also fill a Center role in case of injury who is signed longer term, one of the Leafs higher prospects in Bracco, and a 2nd could just be enough to pry him free.

Barbashev is a first-year young Center who will not hesitate to make a hit. Playing with Timashov who plays a similar style and another big body like Engvall will create an energy producing 4th line to wear down opponents. Very useful come Playoff hockey. And Pietro, is well Pietro. He is part of the deal provided he signs an extension.

The Blues get a big frame body in Gauthier who has proven his worth in the Face-off department. He is also very defensively sound. Johnsson's effort and speed will add to the Blues offense. especially with Taresanko out for a while, extra offense is always welcome. Plus his contract is team friendly. The Blues also get Ceci, who despite some people's views, has not played poorly this season. He'll never be a super star, but he will also not be the reason a team loses. He's consistent and can be relied upon. Just like Pietro, he is a UFA and RHD so they do not have a hole in their back end. The Blues also get a 1st and a 4th.

The Prout trade is purely for a 7th DMan. Prout is large and tough and not afraid to drop the mitts. In case of injury he can hold his own on 3rd pair D and will bring much needed physicality when called upon. Truthfully, I wish the leafs had signed him instead of Marincin.
