I like Petry and think he’s rather underrated, but the age gap between the two players is just too big. I could see Tampa moving sergachev for a younger RHD, but not someone Petry’s age

An aging Petry+Fonstad for Sergachev? And why does Tampa give up the by far better Dman here?

I was suspecting that to be a possibility too. On the flip side, I figured TBL does have a youth movement already and needs guys like Petry to lead & mentor, just like Hedman, McDonagh, Stamkos, and Maroon are doing so nicely.

The rationalization is already in the trade, and it makes strategic sense. If value is off, I don't see why MTL would hesitate in giving other prospects or additional picks. That's not what's going to break this deal. TBL just needs to revisit if their current strategy is to be maintained again & again.

It makes absolutely no sense for Tampa to deal Sergachev for an aging Jeff Petry. Sergachev has far more value then this package. Montreal gave up Sergachev for Drouin. And Sergachevs value has only increased. Tampa isn't that desperate to move Sergachev for Petry and a lesser piece.

I don't expect Sergechev to be an option for Montreal. He's young and all, but he's been in the NHL for 3 seasons now and I don't think his defensive issues have improved on bit. He's just lucky that he's in a such a great system where it can hide his issues. I doubt Montreal has any interest in him. I think they would rather just get picks for Petry and draft a defensemen in the draft

If Serg is traded, it won't be to Montreal Canadiens. You can bet on it...
