Oh that guy that’s having moderate success at the AHL level? For that elite NHL d man that just captained a team to a cup? Dear god. The blues get a dozen better offers in 15 minutes.

If an extension is in place then this will be accepted as I really don't know if they'd get a ton better than this. However, a first round pick would have to be involved if a blue chip prospect isn't and I don't think Kapanen makes up the difference.

Let’s be real about a couple things. First, yes, it would take a ton more. It would take more if there were no extension involved. It would take a crazy amount more if there were. Second, Liljigren is not a blue chip d prospect.

tbh it's not a good idea to play with a 20-man roster

Can you do 12/7 in NHL games?
(yes i mean 12/7 not 11/7)

If no extension is in place, the only piece that might be upgraded is 3rd turns into a second OR Liljegren turns into Sandin. That would be fair especially since Ceci is being retained and is UFA next year so no cap issues will come as a result of it.
However, I still wouldn't make this trade as I think it wouldn't be good for the Blues. Petro is an elite d-man but he is also over 30 now.
I also never called Liljegren a blue chip prospect. I said a first would need to be included if there isn't a blue chip.

I think Kap fits more than Nylander. Johnsson probably fits best though or even Trevor Moore. But if those two are involved it's going to take a lot more.

Just because you can't use the player doesn't mean we should be happy to give him up. Nylander is an excellent forward and every person who wants to trade him on here for older, slower worse players is insane. There is no slam dunk where Pietrangelo is more valuable then Nylander. Sure he's better now, and the Leafs need what he can provide, but in 3 years that trade will look TERRIBLE.

pietrangelo is the best player in this deal. no matter how you look at it. the blues are contending. Explain why the blues trade their best/2nd best dman for nothing when they could just use him and try to win another cup?

In a vacuum yeah Petro has more value, but this trade isn't 1-for-1 and it isn't in a vacuum.

Liljegren's success is more than moderate, for comparison he was outpacing Edmonton's golden boy, Bouchard, in production just two games ago. They are both challenging for top 50 in production for a defenseman in AHL history, and I doubt either team want to consider moving them for a rental.

We all want valuable things, but no, I am not that strawman. I think Toronto recognizes that Petro would be nice to have, but also that for the long-term success of the team they can't afford to offer up what would be necessary to get him.

I didn't say they should trade him. I said the Leafs shouldn't trade Nylander. I don't see why they would move him, they're a top Western conference team trying to win another cup. Sure, it would suck to lose him in the offseason, but it happens all the time and shouldn't cause them to cut bait on this season by trading him for future assets. Trying to win when your window is open is what every NHL GM tries (or should try) to do, and if that means losing the odd free agent for "nothing" then you should do that.

dont think the blues are gonna move him while they make another cup run, they also have some buyout candidates and trade candidates in the offseason that would make it easier to resign pietro.
