Just look at Vegas with stone and karlsson, Cody glass was a non starter, Dallas with miro when they were after karlsson. Those high level protests, top in the Nhl are not just packaged up for rentals or expiring contract players. That’s just the reality of the new nhl in a cap era

They dominated last year, and hardly changed a thing, and they're not even in a playoff spot right now. Parity in the NHL is far too high to throw away opportunities like this because of an unwillingness to trade a future asset.

If it was a trade and sign - maybe. If their core was on the wrong side of 30 - I'd agree with you. But they are already dominating and haven't reached their full potential yet. Byram will be a part of that for the next 10 years, and that should be way more appealing than adding Hall for the next 6 months.

My point exactly. Byram is destined to be a 1-2 Dman next to Maker. I have a hard time imagining he'll be in this trade. MAYBE Newhook is added and the trade looks something like Newhook + Timmins + cond. 2019 1st if Hall resigns, if not it becomes a 2nd.

You've gotta think the Devils starting point is Bowen Byram or Alex Newhook.

the devils can trade him somewhere else then. nobody else will be willing to give up a prospect of that caliber for hall, so unless NJD lowers their asking price then they will lose him for nothing

Devil fans...teams need to send one of their top young Dman no matter what for Hall? Ok so Blues, they dont have a timmins or Byram level prospect so who are they sending, someone from their NHL roster?
Coyotes? Söderström?
Oilers? Bouchard (not happening), Broberg or Jones?

So what really are they out bidding? I think Newhook is used if they really do have to out bid someone in the end. If its true that Devils wont trade him to the East (who cares they stink and are rebuilding for a while get the best deal possible) or wont be able to extend him prior, they have already sewered their return value
