We don't need Hall. Guentzel, Mccann, Kahun, and Rust have all made up for Phil's lost production we don't need anymore offense. However we do need goaltending depth which is why we should keep Murray and trade either him or Jarry at the draft for the picks we give up at the deadline to bring in depth

More production the better, i feel like this a overpayments for a rental, Jarry isn’t going anywhere or Murray

goalies rarely bring back large returns in picks.
Not that I agree with trading Murray, I don't. It's clearly a mistake.
The penguins should keep both Murray and Jarry.
Goalies are streaky, every single one of them. A lot of that has to do with the play in front of them.
Penguins struggle to get the puck out their own end. They get hemmed in a lot, and the defense breaks down. A goalie can only stand on his head for so long.
No goalie should be blocking 4-5 shots at a time in his own end. The puck should be cleared out. That isn't happening. They need to work on fixing that issue first before blaming a goalie.

I think a lot of that is Dumoulin going down but I definitely think that we could use another defenseman because I'm not entirely sold on Johnson or Petterson really. One of the things I noticed that the Islanders do is they completely lock down the area in front of the goalie. They would let us have the corners but the middle of the ice they had on complete lock down. We could never get a cross crease pass even on the power play but we without failure would try and they would intercept it and just clear it away. I was begging the whole series for them to have Bjugstad stand in front of the net because Lehner could see the puck the entire way through because they completely owned the front of the net. Basically I think that whatever the Islanders are doing the Penguins should copy because they really don't have any puck moving defensemen except for Leddy and Toews yet they would always seem to exit the zone effortlessly against us.

It was happening with Dumo on the ice too. I think there are multiple reasons for it.
I think the main defensive pair is the 2nd pairing of Petterson and Schultz can't get the puck out. I don't think that's on MP, but I don't think MP is strong enough to carry Schultz in the D zone.
Schultz has no business ever starting in the D zone. 90% of his starts should be in the offensive zone. He just can't figure it out back there. He's really good with the puck neutral zone forward. But you get him going backwards and it's garbage. Like many other puck movers in this league.

I think JJ play has been fine. For a 3rd pairing guy you can't expect more than what he's given. Now his contact sucks but that's a different sotry, he shouldn't be making 3+ as a 3rd pairing but statistically he's out played a lot of other teams 3rd pairing guys. His 5v5 play is a +6, and that's after he was bumped up to playing 20+ minutes a night which frankly he has NO business doing. And that is a problem, but the issues were there before that.

It starts with the 2nd pairing. But it's not just them. There are whole periods when they just seem stuck in their own end. It's bad passes in the neutral zone by forwards, lazy play, and forwards unable to help break the puck out, and then we are constantly stuck in there till it wears people down. The forwards need to clean their play up to help the defense. Especially in the neutral zone. That's my biggest issue.
My other issue is they need to stop dumping the puck in constantly because it's hard to keep possession on dump ins. All stats show you are 3x more likely to keep possession skating the puck into the zone.
They rarely do that. So they are already at a disadvantage of keeping offensive time and the puck keeps going the other way.
At some point some common sense needs to take place with what they do on the ice.
