Boqvist called up trading Gus VEGAS

Description
With Boqvist getting the call up, looks like Gus is getting moved. I'm betting Vegas is an option as well as MTL.

Highmore getting called up could mean the beginning of the end for Smith or Caggs...one or both are gone.

Also with the emergence of Gilbert, Koekko is out.

I could see a package of Caggs and Koekko going to a team like Toronto. Koekko is certaintly a 7th if not 6th man on the Leafs defense and Caggs is a gritty 3rd or 4th liner which the Leafs need more of. I know hawks fans don't want to let Caggs go but with both Shaw and Caggs in the lineup, one of them is done. Given shaw's concussion history, perhaps Shaw will retire.

Smith can go anywhere...not important.

Bottom line, Hawks are about to make a move I believe, sometime between now and the next few weeks. What is often forgotten is the bonuses and the Hawks needs to cover a good percentage of it this year so cap space needs to be created.

Toronto has so little cap space they're not acquiring anyone unless they make league minimum or sending money back.

No one is taking Smith unless you're giving them assets to take him.

The Vegas trade is the only one that's possible or realistic.

Let me help you out; Koekko is $925K and easily replaces Toronto's 7th man if not a #6 on the active roster. It's a wash in cap hit. Caggs is $1.5M and is certainly a better option then a guy like Engvall or Gauthier. So yes, Leafs pick up another $600K in cap hit, but they have that much room for sure on a 21 man roster.

Smith can go through waivers...doesn't matter or Hawks can buy him out for $1M instead of eating $500K...not important as I said in the description.

The bigger point is Koekko, Gus, Caggs and Smith all look to be on the move, assets back is relevant less so then the teams. The lineup is even more interesting.

Montreal isn't giving you a pick for a buyout worthy contract that wouldn't even crack the lineup

Do they have that much room? They demote and recall players daily just to be cap compliant it seems and Caggiula makes double what most of their bottom end guys make so it might make it harder for the Leafs to carry two spare forwards which isn't ideal.
