That's way to much. There is no reason to make this trade at all. They give up a ton of good young assets for a backup and a weaker, older 3c. Absolutely awful

Really it's one asset in Kerfoot, Engvall has looked good but very small sample size, Staal is an upgrade at 3 C from Kerfoot and would probably fit in nicely in T.O

And why does Minnesota give up their 1C and current starting goaltender for Kerfoot, spare parts, and picks a couple years from now?

I believe the assumption is Minny is going for the long awaited and over due rebuild

Which they're not. Ignoring that, they'd surely get a better offer for a center with 2 playoff runs left at a cheap cap hit who's had a good season facing top lines every night. Kerfoot isn't likely to be a player they'd be interested in and picks 2 years from now aren't as enticing as picks next summer.

Agreed, Staal still holds value, and if made available pretty much every contender would be putting in an offer, return would probably be a young roster player with upside regardless of position, maybe a 1st but likely a 2nd and an A prospect

If was the Leafs I could see Minny being interested in Kapenen the 2020 2nd and a Bracco type prospect they might be able to pull the 2021 3rd out Dubus as well

kerfoot is also younger, better defensively and has term. if it is a slight upgrade it is definitely not worth SDA who has been great in the ohl, engvall who looks to be a good 4th liner and a 2nd+ a 3rd. kerfoot will get better and staal will keep declining

Here's the real question? Does this trade put the Leafs in the playoffs beyond the second round both years they have Staal? If so maybe it's worth it if not then it's not worth it
