Let muzzin walk I say. The only contract that would possibly work for the leafs is a 4 year deal and muzzin won’t want it.

Leafs are better off with Holl than polak. I think the best case scenario for next season is

Rielly-ufa
Dermott-Holl
Sandin-liljegren.

Could be any ufa or trade for a top 4 Dman. Personally I wouldn’t care if we picked up a bottom pair rhd. I have seen enough of Lilly to know he could pair well with Dermott and I seriously think Holl could pair with Rielly. This would certainly get us started next year and then we could evaluate from there. If sandin is tearing it up move Dermott up with Rielly and slide Holl down.

Precisely. It seems to me that the only reasonably qualified talents are Travis Hamonic, Radko Gudas, Mark Pysyk, and Dylan DeMelo . . . not a very big field . . .

Tanev, Vatanen, Shattenkirk, Bogasian, ladue, Stone. Tons of ufa out there. Dubas May go shopping in the khl again. Personally I think we should have re signed ozhiganov and not ceci.

He's right the field is not that deep. Tanev is always injured. Shattenkirk sucks in his own zone, he's a decent puck mover but someone will mistakenly pay him big money again even though he's in his 30s.
And for every guy that moves there is a hole left behind. Which drives up price. One of the issues is there isn't even 6 defense men playing on each team now that belong there.
There is a short supply. But there are some. Be prepared to pay.

I'm not sure this selection widens the screen. I was only so-so about Vatanen when he was here, and that was years ago. I get to see LaDue and the jury is still out on him. Shattenkirk strikes me as aging out and Tanev and Bogosian have bad injury histories.

There are a lot of young players paying top 4 positions. Much more than there used to be. Toronto is sending 2 off to ufa and only need one back. Doesn’t have to be ufa. Trade, overseas, ufa doesn’t really matter. I think the sticking part is they have to be nhl good and preferably RH. I think what will drive the price down on ufa’s is the fact that they will all want full nmc’s for the upcoming expansion.

Nope I agree, they all have their issues but would be nhl good and capable of bottom pair easily.

I think dermy and lilly would be a good pair too, but I would like to see Sandin and Lilly paired together on the 3rd pair when they first come up. My reasoning is that they already have chemistry together so it would be one less thing for them to have to worry about. Sandin already got a taste of the nhl so I don't think it would affect him as much but why make them learn a new partner's positioning etc when those two are already on the same page. After a while, if things need to be shaken up then separate them but I think they will end up being too good together. What do you think?

I'm not sure if Holl would or could thrive playing tougher comp and more minutes but personally, I'd like to see how that experiment goes. Maybe after the TDL if we're out of it Keefe could give it a go.

IMO, we need to do better than a bottom pair D but I do like DeMelo and he should come cheap. I just don't think that we can afford to have a "evaluate later" mindset going into next year because we probably can't keep Andersen after that so we need to take a serious run at the cup.

Obviously, Hamonic would be the best fit for us but I'm sure alot of other teams could say that including the one he's currently playing for and the one close to home. If we can't get him which I think will be the case I like DeMelo and Gudas (in that order) but I'd pass on Pysyk unless he came at a serious discount. I just think it should be easy enough to find someone else who brings what he does at a cheaper price. Who would you like to see the leafs bring in either on this list or not?

Me too, it looks good to me but maybe swap out Pollock for DeMelo?

At first I wanted Muzzin back for obvious reasons...but now I'm leaning towards letting him walk or flipping him at the deadline if we're out of the playoff race. I like DeMelo what do you think of him? Also, I agree we need to bring Holl back but I wouldn't break the bank to do it.
