TDL Trimming the fat but getting assets Pun intended VGK NYI NYR CAR FLA COL

Created by: Jco5ta5
Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 10, 2019
Published: Dec. 10, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Gus for 1st: straight forward. He can be the Dman for Schmidt and will provide a good offensive punch. VGK looks to be a high teens draft pick.

Kampf for Bellows: a lot of NYI fans trading him. He’s had a slow start to the season and may develop further next year. Kampf can be their 3/4 C they need.

Crow + Sikura for Newhook: maybe value isn’t the best for COL but keeping 50% of Crow’s salary who has won two SC and was a part of the 2010 team as well (practice squad) he’s proven he can be a playoff winner is a sweetener. Sikura is a good offensive depth prospect who can play in the NHL right now. Hawks get Newhook who will hopefully develop well in next few years.

Lehner for Mrazek and 1st: Hawks get a pick and goalie to be starter in front of Lankinen for next two years. Hawks aren’t a contender next year so having Mrazek is fine while Delia or Lankinen develop or they get another goalie (see below). Hawks also get a 1st to help fill the system. Carolina gets a top goalie in the league for half price for their run.

Wedin + 2nd for Kravtsov: Kravtsov is in the VHL, basically the AHL of Russia. He is not NHL ready and will be a project but has a high ceiling. Wedin is NHL ready and has good speed. He can be a good player for NYR this year and the future and his next contract can be cheap. 2nd round pick there to sweeten the deal.

Saad + Gravel for Knight: reunite Saad with Q and he can easily help Florida’s run this year. FLA has Bob for 7 years. His contract is awful and immoveable. Knight will be ready for NHL in 2-4 years and keeping him behind Bob is not good for FLA. This gives the Hawks their goalie of the future. I’m giving them Gravel who is turning his season around in the Q and looks to be developing nicely. He is at least 2 years from being an NHL backup to Bob.

Please let me know in comments what you think of these moves and how to tweak them.

**EDIT** ok so the COL, FLA and NYR trades are horribly valued. Please don’t consider them.

That avs trade is terrible. Avs block the hawks number with that offer. A 35 year old pending ufa goalie and an ahl depth forward for a top prospect, yikes

As a Hawks fan, I can tell you that COL is giving up too much for a rental and (arguably) a career AHL player.

I'd rather keep Kampf than acquire bellows. To me that boils down to positional preference, Kampf has actually done it in the NHL, and Kampf's high end motor is great for a bottom pair center.

Florida is probably having at least some kind of buyers remorse at this point. They'll likely need to keep Knight for their future. I don't see them doing that trade...or really it being of value.

Vegas could be a dark horse for Gus. They should be going for it and they don't have too many options due to their cap hit. I like that trade.

I'm not a huge fan of taking Mrazek back, but if CAR makes us...ok i guess. I would however want a conditional pick going to the Hawks if Lehner extends there. Seems like that's becoming fairly standard in TDL trades these days.

I like your WPG trade. WPG needs defense. He's young, under contract for 2 more years, already won 2 cups. I could see WPG giving slightly more than this. Keep in mind 7th Dmen like Brandon Davidson received 3rd rounders at the TDL in the past. Maybe a 2nd or prospect?

I think I'd consider your 1st rounder (lottery unprotected) for Kravtsov. That's about it...

Thanks for not ****ting on me like is common around here. Lol

I would agree COL and FLA trades are likely not valued correctly and I doubt either team gives up their prospects that easily. Plus the Saad trade puts FLA over cap by $3M. I also agree I love Kampf and wouldn’t want to see him go. So maybe that’s an unnecessary trade. I didn’t do conditional pick for Lehner because I already took their 1st but I see your point. Also I felt we had to take either Mrazek or Reimer in this deal to get a goalie back because Lankinen and Delia are backups at best at the moment. Plus CAR doesn’t need 3 goalies.

Whoa! For a guy struggling in the KHL and demoted to the VHL? He’s not worth it. Have fun with that project.

I agree looking back at it is def not a good trade. My bad. I completely overshot.

Taking Newhook out of it, do you think COL needs guys like Sikura and Crow?

A guy being blackballed by his KHL team for planning to go to America =/= "a project"
3 months ago he was largely regarded as the third best forward prospect in the NHL behind Kakko and Hughes

Nope not at all, they have a good goalie tandem In grubi abs francouz and have that level depth in the ahl already, like Logan O’Connor, so they don’t add much in depth,

Isles say no. We can get more for Bellows, even with his value being pretty low right now.

LOL. But I barely touched the main roster except the goalies and Saad. And Hawks can get Crawford back in FA.

This is an interesting comment to me. I'm not suggesting Kravstov is a bust. Additionally, I also think NYR is patient and will allow him to develop AND are one of the NHL teams more likely to sign him than say a Calgary. Heck Panarin chose NYR for the money, but also the large Russian population there. That stuff is all good and stands alone.

Do you think teams should be more warry of Russian prospects because of EXACTLY what you're saying? I don't think this is isolated at all. Alexander Romonav is the 7th Dman getting something like 13 minutes a game. Podkolzin and Kracstov are in the VHL. Denisenko is doing pretty good which means a lot because it's the KHL, but that seems more like the exception than the rule. Not playing meaningful hockey is a huge set back. Even if it just means that other players are developing faster than you. Why aren't more Russian players going the Svechnikov route...through the CHL?

I think Svech doing what he did greatly helped him, but it's definitely not a route for everybody. It's a huge culture shock moving halfway across the world and despite it working out well for him, CHL teams don't necessarily have the networking to smooth that transition like the players would get from a NHL organization.

It can also be an interesting exercise to view it from a KHL point of view. They're obviously trying to win within their league too, so I can imagine it's pretty disheartening when you get an exciting young player and know he plans on leaving your team prior to him hitting his prime.

Great thoughts. and I agree 100%. Maybe teams ARE already factoring in this risk to a certain extent. Again to your point. Kravstov's talent was right up there with the best AND Podkolzin fell to #10 despite some people saying he would have been the 3rd best talent ahead of Dach even.

I considered it. But thinking Kravtsov is a first rounder himself giving NYR a first and a player who is more NHL ready was enough. Again I’m viewing Kravtsov as someone who was overhyped and not nhl ready and having a ceiling lower than expected.

I put explanations in the description. I didn’t just guess. Multiple times I admitted I didn’t do fair trades. My bad. Just spitballing here.
