Won't you need Dillon for the playoffs?

Hawks pass. Dell is a negative and Crow is worth more than a 3rd.

Not as much as we need forward and goalie depth.

Show me one example of a UFA goalie with a .912 save percentage getting more than a third and il agree. Think its more likely that hawks dont end up trading him and he just resigns while Lehner cashes in at UFA

There aren't too many goalie trades in general. It gets even harder for SOLO goalie trades for ONLY picks. Further more it matters whether or not you believe Crow would be the starter. I do believe he's better than Jones AND he's got 2 cups so he's a proven playoff performer, BUT if you think he'll be the backup I'd just suggest you look elsewhere. There will certainly be cheaper options out there. I just wouldn't trade crow for a 3rd. Would rather keep him and let him walk. He'd mean more to the Hawks trying and failing for a playoff spot than a 3rd.

Some trades comps are
Cam Talbot to EDM for a 2nd & 3rd
Brian Elliot for a 2nd & 3rd There were some conditions attached to this trade

***EDIT*** I'm not saying SJ should give up Merkley or anything crazy. Go for a Kinkaid or Sparks or a real backup if you want a backup.

But Crow is a backup at this point in his career. Not to mention he is a rental. I agree it should be more though. Something like Alex True, 3rd round pick for Crow with some retained salary.

No way in hell is crow worth Merkley. Not even worth mentioning.

I was just trying to make a point that I'm not trying to go crazy for a return on Crow. I think we're on the same page there. I actuallly think would be a starter in SJ for sure, in CAR for sure, Maybe even FLA and PHI. Brian Elliot has enough history to know he's not the guy you want in net for the playoffs and Carter Hart may not be ready to get tossed into the playoffs. BOB needs a huge bounce back too.

$3M in retained salary is a must. Understood. Alex True is a career AHLer and on a pretty bad Barracuda team. I really don't think he moves the needle in a trade. The prospect would need to be a real prospect that's not in the AHL. Maybe the pick drops or to a later year, but a Dillon Hamaliuk or Artemi Kniazev

Yeah no not happening, I respect your opinion but those are two good prospects. Any team would be dumb to trade a good prospect and a pick for a UFA goalie that has a high salary and very average numbers. The Talbot trade was for a much younger talbot with much better numbers and contract left. Same with the Elliott trade, he had contract years and amazing numbers when he was moved.

I appreciate the honest and respectful response! Honest question. Isn't SJ trying to win now though? Wouldn't it feel like they're only half way going for it if they don't get a TRUE starting goalie? They've already spent so much draft capital and pure salary/cap to win this year.

Crawford is a very average starter but why would we overpay when their are other options? If I was going to pay heavily for a goalie, I would make it someone that would either extend with us for cheap, or still have contract years.

You need to re-assess what a rental actually is.

Talk about over valuing a 34 year old rental backup tender, jeez...
