Trade for montour

Created by: GenXHockey
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 5, 2019
Published: Dec. 10, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So I’m not sure what else I can add to this trade. Maybe some sabres fans can help me out. All of the players in the forward slots can be added or swapped with players in the trade. All picks are up as well. Is there something fair that can be made with both sides?

Sabres aren't gonna trade him without nylander being involved and Toronto doesn't offer nylander.

Nope, exactly. But we wouldn’t move nylander for ghule and Tracey either (the late first).

I would consider muzzin but I don’t think he would re sign in buffalo so little help there.

Montour definitely a good fit for the Leafs, but what does Buffalo want in return? Don't know if there is a trade that works.
Kapanen + a 2nd?

The only reason the sabres would move Montour is if they got a notified bonafide top 6 player with term imo.

I would certainly offer kappy and a 2nd but I don’t think they would accept.

Johnsson is certainly that but doesn’t get the respect he deserves. He is not a nylander or marner, but he is very close. He is certainly our best LW. He lands somewhere between kapanen and nylander in terms of skill. Leafs have Mikheyev, Hyman and Engvall with Robertson soon to move up so can certainly spare a lw, even if he is the best one we have.

Your present offer seems like overpayment.
Maybe I like Hollowell and Moore too much though.

How much does Montour get as RFA????

Doesn't exactly strike as a bonafide top six player. More of a middle six winger imo who needs the help of a quality center.

I think it is but sabres have no reason to move joki or montour. Risto and miller would be the ones to move. To pry a player free you need to give incentive.

A high end 2nd liner for a low end #4.

Lmao buddy ****

Dude why do you troll every sabres post ever? Seems like you stalk every comment I make. "Low end #4" is a drastic underrating of Montour

Just want to be clear here. You are proposing the Leafs give up a top-6 NHLer, top-9 NHLer, a mid-level right-handed offensive D prospect and a second round for Brandon Monteur, who the Sabres acquired for a 1st and Brendan Gruhle from Anaheim last season? I would call your deal overpayment, especially on how Montour's played so far this season, but I don't think that hammers home my point. Hopefully, you get my point. You've misjudged the worth of this player completely, like it's not even remotely close.

If you watch him play you will notice he generates a lot of his own offence with speed and skill. If he benefits from anyone on that line I would say it’s nylander. Kapanen is more of that type of player. That is one of the reasons I’m offering Johnsson.

I completely understand the criticisms. I think they are mostly due to his draft pedigree.

Yet the answer is still no... now if montour were to demand a trade like he did in Anaheim then maybe there would be more play. But if you are trying to get someone who isn’t on the block it’s not that easy.

Other than being injured what is wrong with his play?

What answer is no? That you are not proposing the deal you are in fact proposing? I am now incredibly confused. Even if the player demands the trade, as I believe Ristolainen already did this past summer, no? I am sure the Sabres would want to do an in-division deal as a last resort. They don't want that traded player hurting them, and I feel like every team has that similar mindset about in-division deals. So, I think that's your first problem, before even if you consider value to this deal. As for his play, I don't think he's tough enough to be what the Leafs need, he seems to cheat a lot offensively, and has made some real bad decisions pinching. His defensive work also still need a lot of refinement. If the rumors about the Leafs interest in Miller and Manson from Anaheim are true, then there may just be a blockbuster deal happening relatively soon.

IMO it's an overpay for Montour, but if the Leafs are desperate maybe they do the deal. Sabres probably aren't desperate to move a Dman with the UFA status of Scanella and Bogosian next summer.

Right now there are just too many teams in the playoff hunt that don't want to shake up their line-up much. Maybe in a month when the pretenders are determined, more trades will be coming.
I see the Sabres falling out of playoff contention and even the Leafs just might never be in true playoff contention.

Trevor Moore has played 46 NHL games, bit of an overstatement to say he's a top 9 forward just yet.

i think its unlikely get montour out of buffalo, coach and GM are really high on the guy. you could prob get miller for a lot less and still slot him in top 4. not as high a skill but still solid player.

I'm high on Moore too. When you have 4 players taking up 50% of your cap (which will decrease as the cap rises but not enough to defeat my point), you have to have players that's value exceeds their contract....and Moore is exactly that.

BTW, what do you think of BTV?

Agree. What do you think it would take to get joki tho? I'd prefer to get him but wouldn't be upset to get Montour.
