There is no possible way for me to communicate how much I would never do this deal.

Even if you say you wouldn’t do it, could you tell me where it goes wrong? Try to put away the player bias for a minute.

Poehling and Suzuki have top 6 potential Suzuki maybe even top 3 . Both are either ready or a year away . Time to dump Gus was this summer . Nylanders stock has fallen . Beaudin has top 3 potential . This is a great trade for hawks that bergevin would be fired for making

Sure. Nic Beaudin & Ryan Poehling is a positional shift between two prospects of equal value. I don't mind that.

The next part of the trade is Suzuki for Gus.
Suzuki 20 years old, future #1 or #2C, current fringe 2-to-3 C. He's on his first NHL season, meaning that most likely, he can only head upwards. His value is a 1st pick +
Gus is 27 years old, future offensive 1st pairing, current 2nd pairing. He's done some great stuff in one season, but consistency is still a question mark. His value is repeatedly quoted around 2nd + 3rd pick.
Nylander is a high-risk move, as a change of scenery hasn't helped him much. I personally have low interest in him altogether, so there's personal bias there.

Value wise, I think you're noticeably off, but not be a terribly insulting amount. It's also a situational misunderstanding issue. If the Habs are to trade Suzuki, it's to get something certain & long-term. On the flip side, Gus is likely not in the long-term horizon of CHI.

Habs would much prefer to pay 2nd + 3rd, or even 2nd + 2nd for Gus, given their context. Asking for an untouchable in Suzuki is heresy.

Bold statement to call Gus a future 1st pairing defensemen. He's barely even an NHL player this season

Bold of you to call Gus barely an NHL player this season, when that is simply untrue.

That's just being ridiculous. You don't need to shoot down players like that just because they don't play for the bleu blanc rouge. By future 1st pairing, I mean he has the potential to be one. What's put into question is how likely he is to reach that potential consistently.

He's playing the same amount of TOI as Connor Murphy so I guess I was wrong, I still don't think he has future #1 talent.

Besides his 60 points season, what has he done to prove that? He's now 27 and on pace for 28 points this season. What makes you think he has the potential to be a future #1 guy?

That claim is more reasonable. Though you got to admit that 60pts last season is enticing. I wonder if Bergevin's crew has done the scouting necessary to see if that was a fluke or not (kinda like how they bet correctly on Danault, someone you'd likely have called a scrub back then)

All I'm saying is if he's done it once, he might be able to do it again. Further analysis required.

Yeah 100%. I'll leave it to Bergevin and his scouts to determine what Gus's future holds. That being said, Suzuki has to be untouchable and it would be very hard to pry Poehling from us.
