Why would Colorado do this? They’re giving up an excellent prospect and 2 good defenseman for a rental, a backup goalie, and a cap dump. This is just horrid.

even with an extension you don't have to trade Byram, hall is good, but hes not some generational elite talent. People are over valuing his one good MVP season that is really the outlier in his whole career. That was 2 years ago.

Its the same argument of Duchene and Barzal trade talks. You were not moving him for Duchene even though thats who the Avs were targeting. Teams aren't giving up on guys who have that sort of potential

Point is when you consider Hall as just an offensive LW who cant play D and Duchene an offensive C who isn't a D Liability, are they really that different in terms of tier in this league? Islanders fans wouldn't do it back then, Avs fans won't do it now when Byram is part of any convo. Big difference was Dutch had term left, Hall is a pure rental who is speculated heavily that he is going to UFA regardless of who trades for him

Agreed. Also it’s a lot easier to find scoring wingers than a Bowen byram. Top pairing caliber defenseman do not grow on trees.

Isles wouldn’t give up Dobson for mark stone last season.

Avs wouldnt give up Sens own pick for Stone either....Knights woudlnt give up Glass. Those Top end prospects are not trade currency in this version of the NHL

Yeah opportunity cost matters - look at all these 19-20 year old defenseman playing top 4 roles on playoff teams and having big impacts (on ELCs)...mcavoy, heiskanen, werenski etc.

Great teams have extremely productive players on their ELC

Girard and makar are both 21 years old and play vital parts in their top 4....the argument avs would trade byram to win now is flawed. Having a cost controlled elite young blue line during mackinnon prime is how you win, not soon to be pending ufa wingers who need a new contract at 29 years old

You can get wingers in other ways, elite blue lines are home grown

Because they would get a future number 1 dman for a player who an upcoming free agent and a cap dump. more like why does COL do this.

we don't have any goaltending depth whatsoever. Blackwood isn't being traded unless we can get a goalie back

Thanks to everyone for participating. I agree that neither side accepts the above. I thought you were all wasting too much energy on slowly moving, draft pick by draft pick, to see whether there was some sort of a Hall for Byram trade possible. Hope I've saved everyone some time and worry.
