Why not?
Well Vatanen isn't actually very good for one, but also the fact that this is a gross overpayment for a rental.

Vatanen is a plenty good deal.

Otherwise you're right. Kapanen with term (3 years then RFA) is worth a lot more than pending UFA vatanen

He is a decent PP guy, but we already have 2 (or 3) of those. Otherwise he is meh 5v5 (0 is league average btw).

We're getting into silly season....just like last year. All non RHDs in the NHL are Norris candidates in trade value when traded to the Leafs.
