Gotta think the Leafs like that deal. Oilers and most teams probably don't want Maatta and his contract long term.

Maatta is much better then advertised. Speed is his problem but other then that he's very solid. Definitely worth $3M but his contract is $1M too rich, however his buyout is only $650K.

Gotta think Columbus can’t afford that trade next season. With PLD, Anderson, Korpisalo and other being RFAs that’s 3.25 of extra cap hit we don’t really have room for. Thankful we don’t have an major UFAs or RFAs who need to be resigned after the 2020 season before Jones and Werenski will need big money and Dubinsky comes off at that point.

Fortin is a decent prospect and a 3rd might be enough. Smith's buyout this year is $1M and pretty sure that drops next year.

Leafs pass. Any deal moving Nylander out has to have a top RHD coming back with term. 3M backup (Crawford), 3.9M 3rd liner (Shaw), and RFA sniper in DeBrincat blows up the Leafs salary cap and then they still haven’t solved the blueline. Huge pass

Debrincat signed 3 years $6.4 million cap hit, he signed that at beginning of season, this deal isn’t actually bad though gives us a backup who has done decent, some third line depth scoring and grit, and elite scorer and we can package koekkoek somewhere else for a right shot guy

Interesting For sure and definitely worth pondering. My only reservation is that I think part of the Leafs problems this year was the time it took for the team to gel together. A lot of new faces took time to feel at home, much like in St Louis last season. I think moving 2 important forwards out for 2 more could cause a ripple that could take time to sort out and I am not sure they can afford a dip in play right now.

With Debrincat's cap number being almost the same as Nylanders next year, the Leafs are taking on way too much cap in this deal to make it worthwhile. Crawford would be gone in the offseason because the Leafs wouldn't give him the money he would want. If we assume Nylander and Debrincat are equal (I like Nylander better but he's our guy anyway) then the trade is Johnsson for Shaw and Koekkoek. That's a terrible trade for Toronto. I can't imagine the Leafs would be willing to do this at all.

Montreal rejects. We aren't paying a 2nd + 3rd for a 25 point defensemen. There are better options out there.

Why trade Debrincat, hes hit a rough patch but he is still contributing. Also Zack smith is actually decent, I wouldnt mind keeping him another year if we're not too close to the cap if/when we resign strome/lehner and debrincats contract kicks in.
