MTL prob will only take Saad if he has half retained or if Alzner, Peca, Weise are in the trade

Montreal isn't going to trade Lehkonen or McShane or Chicago's 2nd round pick.

Saad really isn't an upgrade in what we are looking for, nor is Gustafsson.

Saad is an upgrade over Lehkonen,
and Gusf is an upgrade over: Kulak, Reilly, and even Chiarot offensively

I wouldn't call Saad a defensive upgrade over Lehkonen, He's 3 years older and only has 3 more points than Lehkonen.

Gust is an offensive upgrade over those guys you're right, but he doesn't come anywhere close to Chiarot in terms of defensive abillity. I doubt he even makes our top 4.

I'd say Lehkonen, Kulak and a maybe a late pick outta do it since Saad's play has been questionable lately and Gust too (plus he's expiring).

BUT

I would be surprised if MB was after that package - I'm thinking he's probably after Maatta, Beaudin or Nylander - hell maybe all of them!

Why would we trade Lehkonen + for Saad, that makes no sense

Yes and no, Lehkonen's still young but looks like he's peaked, maybe. Saad's got a down year but he's scored well over 20 goals before, multiple times. This could be the change he needs to do so again. Think about Tatar! Plus, Saad's 27 and Lehkonen's 24 - it's not like we're trading away a rookie for an old man here.

How has it looked like he peaked? He gets 50 chances a game (his positioning is Elite), he just needs to work on his finishing abilty. He would honestly be a 50 point player if he finished 50% of his high quality chances.

It would be a no from Hawks, Saad is a very good power forward who gets 50 points a year and has been quite good this year.

The only thing we want back is that 2nd so find another way to get it. Gus + B- prospect maybe.

From my point of view it's a lot of "if". I'm not saying he's bad but I think it's a good hockey trade.

I'm sure it is, but it's Montreal betting high and Chicago betting low in this case

Fore sure Saad is better than Lehkonen...period!
I know you are a dead supporter of Lehko.. I suspect you are Marc Bergevin behind HabsForEver... protecting badly anyone that's trading a hab player

Not interest in trading core guys unless we are getting solid pieces back. Saad is better offensively, but definitely not defensively
