Yeah this trade does not happen at all. No way does Toronto give up both Kapanen and Nylander in a trade nor do the Blues give up their best defenseman.

Forget the trades, Am I the only one that thinks Gudas won’t make half of that?

Gosh, there's a whole lot of not from the Blues, and OTT won't make that deal. I'd be okay with the SJ and DET trades, the rest is a no.

Makes no sense for the Leafs to give up so much to acquire Pietrangelo. Leafs would 10 times better off, signing him as UFA next summer (if they want to) and then to get cap space they trade Nylander for assets. Besides, Pietrangelo isn't waiving his NTC this season. He's captain on the Cup champs with his team as good as any in the West. Can't be said about the Leafs this season.
Ottawa says no. San Jose might need a goalie but they cap space too...money has be returned to the Blues.
By these trades it would appear the Blues have given up for season. Why?

So just to get this trade straight ...

ST. LOUIS GETS:

Nylander x 5 years (23 year old C/W that's on pace for 60 points and 20 goals for the 3rd time)
Kapanen x 3 years (23 year old RW that's on pace for 50 points and 20 goals for the 2nd time)
1ST (Why not throw in a potential lottery pick on top of an already massive overpay?)

TORONTO GETS:

Pietrangelo x 1 year (30 year old rental who's about to demand $9,000,000 until he's 38)
Sanford x 2 years (25 year old 4th line LW with a career high of 20 points / 8 goals)
Blais x 1 year (23 year old 4th line RW with a total of 18 points in 80 career games).
3RD (Thank you for your consideration)

How about we try something a little fairer?

NEW PROPOSAL:

Pietrangelo x 1 year
Sanford x 2 years
Blais x 1 year
5TH

FOR:

Kapanen x 3 years (I'd take Kapanen's upside (30 GLS / 60 PTS) for 3 years at $3,200,000 (with RFA expiry) over a rental RD)
Gauthier x 1 year (Similar to Sanford (and plays Center) with RFA expiry)
Aberg x 1 year (Similar to Blais (better production) with RFA expiry)
Ceci x 1 year (RD roster replacement + cap space equalizer)

What do you think OP?

Yeah Blues still say no. Nylander and Kapanen are good players, but this exposes a much bigger hole on the Blues for their defense. In the second trade proposal here, Ceci will do more harm than good.

Setting aside that your proposal is a total joke, it's cute how you misrepresent a lot of these pieces and seem to think that points is the sole measure of a player. For instance, Blais is not a 4th liner, his goal pg rate this year is exactly the same as Kapanen's in considerably less ice time and he's among the best hitters in the league. He's also still improving by leaps (which apparently you think only Toronto players can do). It's also funny how you suggest Toronto's 2021 1st could be a lottery pick. Best of all, Petro - the best player in the deal and one who fits the Leafs' most crucial need - comes off sounding like a worthless cap drain with no redeeming qualities worth mentioning instead of a captain of the West-leading Cup champs who happens to be in career year form.

Fun stuff! awesome face

Petro is a rental who will be overpaid in 6 months ... which is what I said ... I didn't mention is skill level.

Blais has 15 points in 70 career games ... and is same age as Kappy ... who has 72 points in 165 career games.

So how exactly are they comparable?

And my proposal is a joke because I decided to make it slightly better than the one above.

Sure, dude. Keep telling yourself all that. I'll just sit here enjoying Petro in a Blues jersey. Call me when you're team of titans breaks into a wildcard spot. Or, ya know, learn reading comprehension. Just for starters, Petro comes with an extension in the trade you're commenting on, so he's not a rental.
