I like Kreider but I dont see the jets giving up too much for a rental, especially when they are pretty stacked at the wing
I like the idea of a Deangelo for Niku deal. Wonder what it would take? probably Niku plus

Niku plus a 2020 3rd rounder or Niku plus Appleton

If I were the jets I would seriously consider moving Niku. I know he's had injury issues, but something else is going on there. When he's been healthy guys like Bitetto, Dahlstrom, Sbisa and Kulkov have all played over him.

Perhaps he's just not ready?

Its cuz Maurice prefers vets over young guys...unless they can produce. It seems that the three times that the Jets needed a D, Niku got injured...all freak accidents...smile

I highly doubt that gets Deangelo and Kreider.

I'm not sure they really need to do anything with the defense to be honest, they're getting by with what they got but if they were to acquire a dman I wonder if a LHD to play on the second pair with Pionk isn't what they need the most. Someone like Brodin maybe but the Wild aren't giving up just yet so idk and they'd have to be willing to move Kulikov out and that team would have to be willing to take him for the remainder of the season.

I would do Niku + Vesa for DeAngelo + 3rd. Would that be enough for the Rangers?

Too much for the jets IMO
If the jets are willing to trade their number 1 d prospect and forward they should get a better return

I think he’s 100000% ready, he’s just had some injury issues. He’s also putting up near PPG in AHL when playing healthy. Maurice just likes having that Veteran presence. I think he’d play great with the Rangers. He’d also have that connection with Trouba and Lemieux and would gel nicely there.

I’m not so sure Niku is the top defensive prospect anymore. Samberg looks really good, Heinola is obviously still a question mark but made a big impact in his minutes he did play. Stanley is slowly making a name for himself. I just think Niku doesn’t fit what PoMo wants and he may need a change of scenery. I like Niku and if he make the team great but we are deep on the left and need a RHD badly.

I agree that those guys could be the top d prospect, but as of right now Niku has won defenseman of the year in the AHL and is projected to be a regular NHLer. I would say that Samberg will most likely surpass him but he has played zero professional games
