NJD and ANA - would you do it

Created by: Khalenix
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 11, 2019
Published: Dec. 11, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Anaheim needs to start a rebuild - I feel like a young top 6 d, a top9 forward and a pick would do it.

Ney Jersey are gonna get a lot of offers for Hall - not saying this is the best thing they can get but I think it's fair + I don't think MB would go higher than that. Poelhing is a A prospect but we've got some depth in the future centers with KK, Suzuki, Domi and even Evans.

Let me know what you guys think! :)

No reason for Cam Fowler to waive from Southern California to Montreal, He signed with Anaheim long term for a reason. Warm weather.

Yeah I get that I'm just thinking value - and we never know! Maybe he'd do it to get into the playoffs (not sure yeat but maybe) and play top 2 minutes with Weber. To me it's not that Farfetched. Players waived for a lot less before.

Players have their NTCs for a reason. Now Fowler might waive if he was going to a Cup contender, but there is no logical reason why Fowler would waive for Montreal.

No thanks-

Cam Fowler: Top 4 dman.

Lehkonen: 3rd line winger, of which the Ducks have plenty.
Reilly: Bottom pairing/7th LD, of which the Ducks have plenty.
2nd round pick: I mean, at least you put it in 2020, but no.

I agree, we're far from Fowler's value. That's typically what MTL offers in their AGM for Gostisbehere.

I couldn't have said it better. I see @pinslack is on board, too.

Anaheim's primary need is for RD, so the only trades we would even consider would involve either Petry plus something or Brook plus a lot, like a top-6 forward prospect (Caufield or Poehling).

Take Reilly/Peca/Lindgren out of those trades. (They aren't worth anything in trade. Probably good enough to picked up on waivers but that's it)

Replace those 3 players with picks or prospects that would make you go "Hmm maybe I won't do this trade after all". That's how you'll know it probably will be a fair value.

Thing is, they are worth something - Habs have been selling these kind of players to playoffs teams for depth at the deadline for 4th and 5th in the past few years. I know this is not what was suggested here but I do think they are worth something. Just think about Morrow, Froese, etc, who were arguably worse than Rielly, Peca, Lindgren.

Assume you are right, Joe Morrow had 11 points in 38 games including 5 goals...... Former 1st round pick that a lot of people still had high hopes for so I think he had better value than these guys.. Froese on the other hand was traded essentially for Folin so these are waiver wire players only. No picks were given here. The only other player the Habs got a pick from a team in the past 10 years was Jerebek...... so im not sure what you are talking about when you say these players have value. Trading 1 guy with little value for another guy with little value is just swapping players. No value is exchanged. No one would give a pick for these guys but they would swap another player for them if they wanted to.

- Lindgren hasn't played more than a couple games in the NHL the past couple seasons and his statistics have been bad at the AHL level.
- Peca signed a generous contract despite not actually doing much at the NHL level and hasn't done anything to make anyone think he's more than an AHL'er with callup 4th line ability.
- Reilly is an NHL'er but a 7th dman at best. Most teams will only give a pick for this guy if he was at least putting up points. Reilly isn't, in fact he isn't even getting into the lineup.

So these guys have ZERO value in trade. Could they be traded for another teams player that is equally disappointing? Sure, but that is not value. That is two teams trying to resuscitate those players careers or just adding playoff depth in the off chance they get a ton of injuries.

You can't add these guys to a trade. They don't bring up the value of the trade. In fact they decrease the value of the trade because that team would rather not have to pay them at all then take on another contract of a player whose only just a 4th liner/AHL'er at best.
