If Tatar is going anywhere, it's probably to a contender so maybe a late first and a B prospect. He's pretty underrated

So if to TOR, then 2020 1st and Sandin/Liljegren?

      Leafs can't afford Tatar cap-wise.

Well that’s what they’re worth. Byron is 30 and 3rd liners decline quickly. That’s why you don’t sign them long term. He’s certainly not bringing in a 2nd.

      Tatar is good, but he’s not bringing in a first AND a top prospect. He’d bring in a first a midrange guy. So for example;

Tatar to Dallas for a first and Albin Eriksson

      Yeah not happening.

Byron is very useful regardless of how he played this year.

We aren't trading a 28 YO winger on pace for 71 points and has a 4.8 Million dollar contract for a year and a half for that ****ty price. Sorry, but he's worth more than that.

He’s historically a 50 ish point player... and chances are he’ll regress back to his usual self and score around 60 points this year too. Keep living in your dream world that Tatar is bringing home a first + a blue chip prospect cause that ain’t happening.

Based on what other guys get, Tatar is definitely worth that, but ok. Keep telling me how he won't get that with no facts to back it up.

Dude... since when do 50 players get a first + Blue chip prospect LMAO. Keep dreaming. Chirelli isn’t a GM anymore

He got a 1st + 2nd + 3rd making 5.3 Million and he was on pace for 37 points that season.

Now he's making 4.8 Million and on pace for 70 points. Almost double the production and on a cheaper contract.

Lucic as a 44 point player got a 1st + Martin Jones + Colin Miller

      Kessel as a 61 point player got 1st + Kapanen + 2nd

      Ladd as a 47 point player got 1st + 3rd + Marko Dano

Brayden Schenn as a 55 point player got 2 1sts and a terrible contract

Stepan as a 55 point player got Deangelo + 1st

Not gonna bother looking up more, but those are examples. His value is set in stone

And that Vegas traded looked like a GROSS overpay at the time.

Lucic trade? Gross overpay by kings, but Lucic at that point in his career brought more to the table than Tatar now. He was a physical threat that could score.

Kessel was a former 80 point guy on a slump year

Ladd: marko dano was nothing special so I’m sure Tatar could bring in a prospect like that. He was a B prospect. Also... Ladd brought a lot more to the table than just Tatar. Great leader, physical, hard to play against

Brayden schenn: Ill get to that point in a second.

Stepan: gross overpay but he plays centre and I’ll address that point as well.

At the time of those trades... the years were lower scoring. 50-60 points then was more significant than 50-60 points now. This season is ridiculously high scoring. How many guys are on pace for over 100 points??

Your best argument was Ladd. I could see a struggling first round pick prospect + a late first for Tatar.

If every trade that happens is a gross overpay, doesn't it not become an overpay anymore and it becomes the norm?

A team getting Tatar would be a playoff team, meaning the 1st round pick would be mid-late 20's. and a prospect from last years draft that was a late first round pick. That's what I mean.

Most of the players I mentioned were payed more and were UFA's. You get another year of Tatar at 4.8 Million.

What your not comprehending is that this is a very high scoring year. Those rentals were all from lower scoring years. I could see Habs getting a guy from 2015/16/17 draft first round as a reclamation project

Last year 31 players were PPG players. This year there are currently 34 at 30 games played. I imagine that number will drop to around the same or even lower than last year.

Last year 31 players were PPG players. This year there are currently 34 at 30 games played. I imagine that number will drop to around the same or even lower than last year.

Both this season and last have been very high scoring. Every player you listed were traded before last season

38 PT Rick Nash for 1st + Ryan Lindgren (Made USA U20 Team) Decent Prospect
65 PT Paul Stastny for 1st Round Pick (Nice steal for the Jets)
      45 PT Tomas Tatar for 1st + 2nd + 3rd
      53 PT Evander Kane for 1st + 4th
67 PT Kevin Hayes for Brendan Lemieux + 1st round pick

You have to remember every single one of these guys (except Tatar Trade) was for a pending UFA. Tatar having an extra year makes him more valuable.
