Whoever the best center available is would be the best move for Detroit imo.

Laf is far and away the best prospect in years, you don't pass up on that, you can still get a potential damn good C at pick 32 (or sooner if some team is dumb enough to trade their first)

Lafreniere is pretty clearly better than Byfield this year. I don't think there is a player in the NHL you couldn't get for him, though. Most would come with a later 1st.

I agree Lafreniere is the player that should go 1st. While they are both elite Lafreniere could be special.

IMO the most intriguing part of the debate isn't center vs winger, but that Byfield is 10 months younger than Lafreniere... still I'm taking the BPA and I don't think Lafreniere will be displaced from that moniker.
