E svech is two years older, and on pace for zero points this year. Detroit adds something. Okay, maybe they don't add G. Smith or Lindstrom without the Caps adding a 4th, but maybe they throw in Bowey, whose defense is a project but whose offense is fine, and who already knows the team and the coach.

I think the ship has sailed on Bowey. He'll be 25 by season's end, and it's not likely that he's going to develop much further than what we see from him today. I'd much rather re-sign Gudas to a 2 or 3 year deal than acquiring Bowey.

I agree that Gudas is better than Bowey right now, and quite possibly forever. Gudas plays a tough, positional game. He keeps the crease clear and finishes his checks. He puts up a sensible amount of offense while staying back in position.

Bowey needs to play in the AHL most of this year and learn how to do all of that stuff. He can come up for another look when he hits +20 in Hershey, and kills five straight penalties. He started this year on pace for -48. If he uses the chance to play in the minors and learns to be an even player, he might still play ten years in the NHL, maybe even as a regular #4. If he keeps playing a one-way game, obviously you're right, he could be done.
