Comment what you'd want for E. Svech and Bowey.

Here are some ideas I posted on the Caps side, that seemed okay.
Trades
DET
  1. Geisser, Tobias
  2. Johansen, Lucas
Additional Details:
A 1st round draft pick who is two years younger than Svech and plays LHD, but is injured right now. A younger LHD playing in Europe. Just ideas. What would be better?
WSH
  1. 2020 6th round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
E. Svech and Bowey?

Don’t know either of those prospects so not sure but as for Bowey; he just passed through waivers unclaimed so I’d be pretty comfortable saying there is no team out there willing to trade a prospect for him

So I think I posted this on the Caps side yesterday as two separate trades. The first was Johansen (21 year old 1st round LHD, because Detroit needs LHD) for E. Svech 23 year old 1st round LW plus G. Smith, but Detroit fans said no on including Smith. The second was Bowey for Geisser (young, undrafted LHD, currently on loan to a European team), and a 5th. Detroit fans liked that one, I think mostly for the 5th, but also for general prospect depth at LHD.

In my head I'm bargaining down from Svech+Smith=Johansen to Svech+4th=Johansen, and then carrying the 4th over into the Bowey trade. A 4th-a 5th equals? I don't know. Some kind of late pick. Or not. That's probably not the important part, from the Caps' side.

Washington has Alexeyev (younger 1st round pick), Fehervary (younger 2nd round pick) and Djoos (25 year old with a Stanley Cup ring) in the AHL all at LHD. Johansen apparently had a rough start to this season due to injury. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him traded to even out team depth at different positions. The Caps already know Bowey pretty well, and they know what kind of sheltered minutes they can play him in, and get through a game. He's not that solid in his own end, but he's a skilled guy who knows Washington's system and knows most of the players, so he could be a good injury call-up option, down the stretch, for them.

Personally I like the Svechnikov plus something for Haydn Fluery trade. Det has good young D prospects in the system. Fluery is already an NHL caliber player who just doesn’t get the ice time on a loaded Carolina Blue line. And I would think Car would take a flyer on Svech to join his bro

Yeah, that's a good option, too. Fleury's looking decent, playing 11 minutes a night for Carolina. Johansen is a year and a half younger with a similar ceiling, so I suppose it would come down to who lets Detroit get away with adding less. So I suppose the late round pick is out, if Washington wants to come away with a skilled, young Russian-speaking wing whom their top liners can mentor a bit.

If it's a separate trade, what would you want for Bowey? I think having depth who knows the team and knows the system could be valuable for Washington, down the stretch, especially now that he's cleared waivers and has no cap hit.

edit: but if Detroit asks more than Johansen for E. Svech, I'm sure the Caps pass. Adding a talented wing who speaks Russian obviously is exciting for a team with two Russian guys on their top line, but there was a rumor they could get Zykov for Stephenson, and a Van fan was happy with a 4th for Goldobin on here the other day so even if that's a route they want to go, there are NHL experienced options at lower prices. My whole idea here is to find a win-win kind of way to balance out both teams' depth charts.

My take is both Bowey and Svechnikov have both proved they can be successful in the AHL. Johansen has proved this as well but he has never played a NHL game and he is in his 3rd season of pro hockey in North America. Geisser hasn't proved he can play in the AHL and if his current play keeps up he will be in the ECHL or back in Germany where it would be much better for his development at this point.

Completely agree. But Johansen is a year younger than Svechnikov, and two and a half years younger than Bowey. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=169246

Bowey's on pace for a -48 season in the NHL and you recently posted that he's one of the four or five worst players in the league, so I wasn't sure if you knew how great he is. smile

I actually think Bowey's skill makes it pretty definite that he'll get another shot after he works out some kinks in his decision making and positioning in the AHL, so whether or not he could be included in a Johansen deal just depends on how much Detroit rates youth and potential.

Fleury and Johansen each hit 45 points in their best years in the WHL. Johansen is a year younger and has plenty of time. If you're looking to contend for the longest amount of time, getting a similar guy a year younger could be a tiny bit better, but okay, asking to throw in Bowey is a reach. smile

I was just using the AHL as common ground because Bowey and Svech are them only players there with NHL games under their belt but they've all played in the AHL. The trade you offered with Geisser and a 6th rd pick at this point Geisser is the weakest player out of the 4 players in the trade I think if any thing Detroit should get the pick to even it out.

If it's a sixth, for Bowey and Svech? Yeah, I think you might be right.

Edit: I mean, I think Johansen has the highest ceiling in the trade, and Geisser is the youngest, so he has the most time to get somewhere, but in terms of the potential to step in this year being valuable, I think the Caps could probably stand to throw in a 6th to get guys with a tiny bit of NHL experience for guys without any.

2nd edit: but when I posted, "comment what you'd want," in the description, I mean, I don't think those two fetch Ovechkin, but it also doesn't have to start with two prospects I think are least likely to help the Caps win the 2020 Cup. But if they have some value, and a 6th balances it, awesome.

I don't think Svech is going to breakout in Detroit there some younger players and a need to get out of the basement fairly quick. The way he has handled everything from Holland kind of screwing him and the he missed last season with an ACL tear but every time you see him he is smiling and just happy to have another chance. if going to a new team is what he needs to succeed I'm all for it. It's hard not to want a player like that to do well even if it's on another team.
