Try Crawford. Lehner is someone you can build around if you can get a contract with him.

The hawks aren't building anything at this point, and have goalies in the pipeline that could push for spots in the near future. Crawford has an NMC, unlikely he waives to go anywhere.

Do you want to contend anytime in the next 5 seasons? Lehner is an elite goalie...

I would say that's an outlandish ask out of a rookie, but the blues and Binnington....

This is terrible return for a top 5 goalie. Retaining 1/2 (not a big deal), taking on a cap dump (bigger deal) and only a 1st round pick? A starting goalie, let alone a top 5 goalie even as a UFA rental gets more then a 1st round pick. Look at history. You can expect more like a 1st plus a 3rd rounder conditional to a 1st or 2nd if Lehner re-signs for taking on a cap dump too.

2020 draft is insanely deep. 2020 1sts have a lot of value. When you factor in the amount of contending teams that need a goalie (Literally just the oilers), you can't expect a large return when there is no demand.

So all the sudden Carolina doesn't need a goalie? Furthermore, the 2020 draft is deep in the first 15 picks, of which none of these trade partners will be in the first 20 picks. That said, none of that changes the fact that a top 5 goalie is worth way more then a late 1st rounder. Sorry Nick, but historically that is a horrible return.

Historically you haven't referenced a single goalie trade from the past to back that statement because they are incredibly rare.

That's exactly my point. What isn't rare is players who carry a TON LESS value historically getting a 1st in return, Hartman being the most glaring.

Crawford isn't top 5 worth though. He is a rental.

Besides your subjective opinion, please back that up objectively providing stats and historical data.

That's not overreacting.... Smith has a sub 900 save percentage and Koskinen is at a very mediocre 914 save percentage. Lehner has far better numbers than them with a 926 save percentage on a way worse team. If EDM is looking to contend this season, they should be all over Lehner before another team gets him.

It’s not opinion. Like when it comes to goalies I personally don’t think anyone is willing to pay that much for a rental. I know a lot of people think rentals make a lot, but they really don’t. I honestly don’t think Hall should make that much but what I think and what NJD thinks and what Chicago thinks are very different things. Rentals are probably worth half or maybe less than half of their normal value.

Go look at what Bishop or Ryan Miller pulled in. How about Evander Kane who Lehner is worth a lot more then? Bottom line, TDL in general boost the value of a player quite a bit even if they are rentals.

Ben Bishop fetched Erik Cernak (who was ok prospect at the time), a 7th, and a 3rd strong goalie. Not exactly a great return.

And Ryan Miller brought in Stewart, Carrier, and a first.
