Its pretty surprising how much Smith's value has dropped that all he could get in return is Bogo now. Bogo has been bad/below average for a while now. Smith had 20+ goals in 5 out of the last 6 seasons. 30 games has washed that all away?

I think a presence like Bogo could help the preds D more than Smith at forward has honestly. I think Smith is probably the better player, but you have to make a deal somehow. I would prefer the preds to trade Smith this season for some D help or a pick + prospect type deal with an EDM or some team (maybe retained salary) - similar to the Legwand deal with DET that got NSH Jarnkork. I just think his time with the preds has come and gone - I think they need to move on.

Yep the logic is fine. The execution is wasting precious asset IMO.

Better to trade for Bogo for a pick (Buffalo just wants to get rid of him and his cap - he shouldn't cost more than a 4th at best) Then trade Smith to a playoff team looking for depth. I could see a 2nd round pick coming the other way. Marcus Johansson got a 2nd and a 4th last year. Smith should snag a late 2nd.

I think this is a good deal that can help both teams.
