We need a big winger who can score

Created by: math731
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 13, 2019
Published: Dec. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
and Bergevin will only trade for someone who's young enough
Trades
MTL
  1. Mantha, Anthony
Additional Details:
Poehling is our best C prospect and Brook ended up with the greatest ppg for a dmen in the CHL. This first is hard to give, but we could certainly get another one by trading Petry or Tatar this summer.
DET
  1. Brook, Josh
  2. Poehling, Ryan
  3. 2020 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
That's fair value... Don't know if it worth it. Mantha isn't 21 anymore, but seems to have found his game this year.

I would rather spend that on an elite dman than another winger. Caulfield, Suzuki, Poehling, Kotkaniemi, Domi, Drouin, Gallagher, Danault, Tatar, etc etc etc. Theres only so much time to be given to players as is.

I like the trade for both teams. From the outside looking in on DET...it seems like Stevie Y is MORE than willing to go the tank route. I'd be willing to bet Poehling and Brook stay in Grand Rapids another year too. He's hunting for #1OA picks.

Yzerman is not going to part with Mantha. He already acquire Montreal’s best young defenceman for the Bolts. I don’t see the Habs providing anything which can help the Red Wings.

Montreal needs a top 6 winger. Best look at the teams up against the cap and make a deal.

Yes, this is the new NHL. Speed rules. It can create goals.

Josh Anderson is the one MTL need. Big guy who can score and play right wing on top 9.
The price is probably better than taking a player like Mantha.

Speed is the new NHL!

Also, summer on Uranus lasts 42 years

Let that sink in!

Simple. Speed is the game today. Speed will win lose pucks, create odd man rushes, put pressure in defensive zone. All these things create offensive opportunities and likely more goals scored. Watch Colorado or Toronto. You will see how speed creates offensive chances. Then watch a team like Chicago ( they lack team speed) and are chasing to get the puck most of the game, and why they habitually give up 40 shots a game.

Yeah I totally understand why speed is good I just don't understand how that has anything to do with my comment. Huh?

Was it Boston or St.Louis that was the speed team?

Suzuki is your best C prospect. *Might* work out value-wise if this is the move that you think gets you into the playoffs, but if it doesn't, and that pick is top 10, I think you'd regret it pretty quickly (Especially in such a deep draft).

It's never a bad thing to upgrade like this, but between Domi and Mantha (both of whom are RFA's looking for new contracts this offseason), you're going to end up spending a whollllleeeee lot of money. Both likely end up with $6.5 per year (or more).

Habs have around $63 mil spent next year (maybe slightly more, it was just a quick calculation), so add $13 mil (low ball), which gets you to $76, plus Mete (Maybe $4/3 or something like that? Not really sure), which gets you to $80 mil, with a few extra guys to sign. Might be tough, especially since adding a top pairing LD *Should* be the priority...

You're right. The Pens won back to back Cups because of "Size"

Detroit won't do it... but for a their reset it should be fair... and just for fun... It would be a great addition to MTL even if we have many great RW coming soon like Caufield!
And Having Armia & Lehko on the 3rd or 4th line... we could package one of them out for a great LHD... maybe Leddy?
One on One with Armia?

I just don't see Detroit trading Mantha, they're building around him...

Also all firsts aren't made equal. The firsts you could get for Tatar or Petry are not going to be from teams out of the playoffs...

To answer your question, the playoffs and regular season are two different animals, as you know. Both teams reached the SCF with great defence and goaltending as it normally happens in the playoffs. The Bruins have work class players. They have a great system, well coached, and depth. The Blues ( their run) was a generational team, to be last in January. I thought the acquisitions (O’Reilly & Bozak) in the off season solidify them down the middle. They underachieved and took them buying into Berube to turn it around. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

I wasn’t explaining how teams reach the SCF’s. I was explaining how speed today in the NHL will create scoring opportunities. The fastest player in the game today McDavid is a testament to this, however without the other intangibles I mentioned, goaltending, defence, coaching, team depth, speed can only take a team in the post season so far.

No, they won because Fleury and Murray both played like Roy is his prime
