I'd rather ceci to Bogosian. Campbell makes too much and has not proven to be better than Hutch....

Campbell has signed an extension, so either way it's bad trade for LA. or even the Pens if it's DeSmith.
Why would the Leafs trade for Bogo, who is worse than the OK Ceci.
Why worry about Blues trading Pietrangelo, it's Pietrangelo who holds all the cards with the with his NTC. Even if Pietrangelo waives it, if I'm the Leafs I have a contract discussion with Pietrangelo. "Agree" to contract for next year, but the trade isn't done. Leafs would be 10 times better off signing Pietrangelo as a UFA and keeping Nylander, Liljegren and the pick. Need cap space next season,,,,trade Nylander for assets.

Why do you hate Nylander so much? Did he run you over with his car?

If you're trading someone for assets and cap savings, it's Kapanen or Johnsson. Not one of the big 4.

I would be furious trading Nylander straight up for Pietrangelo. Let alone including a pick and the best Rd in the system under age 25. Maybe if a sign and trade at 5x7aav max. He's great but 30. Deserves 10+ million next year, but should lose 1 million per year added after that.

I don't hate Nylander. And I'll agree with you likely Kapanen and Johnsson get traded if cap space is needed. Just because a player is paid among the top 4,(forwards) doesn't make among the top productive forwards or have top 4 cap value. Don't know why so many Leafs rave about Nylander this season. He's on pace for 55 point season, nothing special for a top minutes player making 7m.

I too am baffled by how most leaf fans on here act like Nylander is untouchable. It's extremely hard to win when you have 4 towards taking up 50% of the cap (yes I know it will be less as the cap inflates) but one of the big four will likely have to be traded at some point and it sure as shoot won't be AM or JT.

Won't shock me at all if it's Matthews. Short deal and would bring the most back. Trade him for a huge haul then sign a top free agent to a long deal. Will be a similar cap hit plus get the huge haul of Matthews and no risk of losing him for nothing in a couple of years.

What your saying makes sense to a degree, but I can't see the FO trading either Tavares or Matthews. I think they'll have to choose between one of Marner or Nylander and I think they choose Marner because Nylander is more marketable based on his contract. Only time will tell I guess.

I think Tavares only untouchable. But between Marner and Nylander id say Marner more likely to go. Is he 4 million per year better than Nylander? I'd argue not better much at all. But flashier. Imagine Marner in Edmonton playing with McJesus and Driasitl? How about Marner for Bouchard, Puljujarvi, a 1st and a top goalie or LW prospect?

I think Matthews is pretty close to JT ATM, maybe closer to the end of his deal if he doesn't show a willingness to wanna stay. As for Marner vs Nylander, I think it's alot easier for a team to fit Nylander into their roster than Marner but I wouldn't be opposed to trading MM. If the Leafs are going to move either I think it's for a value play tho 1vs1 or at least as the headliner depending on the player (RHD) coming back.

My eye test thinks Marner is better in every way than Nylander. Marner makes players he plays with better. Nylander not so much.

The trade would definitely need to be during off season when every team can fit anybody.
If the headliner were a Norris calibre RD then maybe 1 for 1 works.

I've watched every leaf game since long before any current player was on the team. Marner is flashier, and nice that he kills penalties now. But he has many brutal giveaways. And there is very little evidence he can drive a line. Whereas every player that plays with Nylander does better than without him, and he is just as good at Marner at everything but foot speed and occasionally hustle. And Nylander is one of, if not THE best guy at 5 on 5 with the puck. He might lack the top end skill of Marner, but at 4 million cheaper he has way more value.

I find Nylander good even very good at puck handling, but it hasn't transformed into great production. He's been a 60 point guy in his two best seasons. Even this year where he getting raves...he's on 55 point pace. I don't see all the love for Nylander at all by Nylander supporters.

Marner had 1 year better at 5 on 5 than Nylander. With a 5 on 5 WOWY god aka Tavares and Nylander a lost year due to holdout. Whereas Nylander gets nearly all of his points 5 on 5.

Look at Nylander's two best years He's a 60 point guy. Even this year Nylander is no more than 60 point player. Nylander might get more points on even strength but he on the ice for more opposition goals too.. Marner two seasons what 69 and 94 points. Even this year pro rated he's an 85 point player. I know it's subjective, but IMO Marner is a far superior NHL forward than Nylander.

If +/- is your bag (it shouldn't be it's a terrible terrible stat that says Ovechkin only a +6 per year player), Nylander career +12. Marner is +20 but was +22 in his 1 full year with WOWY god Tavares. Combined -2 the rest of his career including this year.
