Mirroring the Brayden Schenn Trade

Created by: shmoeman
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 13, 2019
Published: Dec. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In 2017, the Blues acquired Brayden Schenn for two 1sts and Jori Lehtera
Lehtera was an overpaid 3rd liner at the time (he had two good and one ok year with STL, was awful when he got to Philly)
The trade really did work out for both teams
The two firsts ended up becoming Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee, both of which are great prospects atm and Schenn, on a team friendly deal with 3 years left at the time, helped STL win the cup
At the time, the Flyers were a fringe playoff team and decided to taking a step back would help them out a ton in the future (which it seems this trade will do)
The Blues were looking for young, controllable talent in the top 6, which they got.

I think the Ducks are in a very similar situation as the Flyers were. They are a fringe playoff team that would be far better off selling some assets rather than trying to acquire NHLers. They arent going to trade Getzlaf and with their plethora of young forwards ready to make an impact in the NHL (Terry, Comtois, Steel etc) they can afford to move a guy like Rakell for a big haul

The Ducks snag two 1sts (which the Bruins are always hesitant to give up but it would be worth it to get a top 6 guy on a great contract) John Moore, who is a solid bottom pairing option for a team pretty weak on the back-end and could be easily flipped for a pick or two and Jeremy Lauzon who is an NHL ready Dman who isnt getting a chance due to all the depth the Bruins have on D

Why not go after getzlaf? Try to do a Backes + significant assets for Getzlaf. All of a sudden you’re incredibly deep at center, bigger, and tougher. Coyle plays the right side with him, Debrusk on the left, and you’ve got a line that’s so hard to play against. Krejci is set up with Bjork and Heinen. Not the best but not the worst. Anaheim saves a ton of real dollars.
