I'm not a big fan of Nylander at 7m, and I know points aren't everything, but 30 year old Couture with 6.5m left at 8m, no thanks from Leafs.

Currently Couture might help SJ more than Nylander, but long-term SJ is a clear winner here.

Yes they are. But the sharks cant afford to lose Couture as we have no top line center replacements coming, and also Id much rather hold out on Merkley till when his value is skyhigh than throw him in for a lesser prospect and a great third liner.

Liljegren isn't even a "lesser prospect" when compared to Merkley. He's 17th overall pick from 2017. Merkley's 21st from 2018. I'd call them pretty equal.

When they are picked doesnt make them a good player. Im taking Merks everytime, way more potential(although to be fair more bust potential too).

Neither team makes this trade for obvious reasons, but this is still one of the better Leafs/Sharks deals I've seen on here.
