Vancouver re-tooled for Future Core

Created by: Jerdog666
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 13, 2019
Published: Dec. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Risky trade with NY Rangers.
Low Risk trade with Detroit
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Bowey, Madison
Additional Details:
Both players have waiver exempt status and can be brought up or down as needed. Both players are 24 on Expiring contracts set to be RFAs. Both players could benefit from a change of scenery.
DET
  1. Goldobin, Nikolay
Additional Details:
Goldobin in more proven at the NHL level, but unable to crack Vancouver's deep surplus of forwards. Vancouver is not very deep in RH defenseman in system.
2.
VAN
  1. Andersson, Lias
  2. Deangelo, Anthony
Additional Details:
The Rangers are receiving the better 2 players in this deal, a true top line forward and a solid top 4 defender. They don't want to move Deangelo, but would do it for Boeser.
NYR
  1. Boeser, Brock
  2. Stecher, Troy
Additional Details:
Van is gambling alot on this one, but they don't have any real RH defenseman in their system to try and build a core around. They have some potential in prospect forwards to one day replace Boesser. This trade makes Vancouver worse today, but could be very rewarding in a couple of years.

Gosh that NY trade is a massive loss. You tried, and it's a shame to say this, but that is perhaps the worst in terms of value I've seen in a legit canucks build.

I must admit the idea is there though. Stetcher and a prospect is a much more reasonable way to get Deangelo, who is absolutely not on the same level as Boeser. Stetcher has more value than Lias too.

Why would Vancouver do the Boeser trade, Oilers would trade more including a RHD, if that’s the basis for a Boeser deal. You’d also get a better return from other teams as well.

I really like that Detroit trade and really don't like that Rangers trade.

There were rumours that management might look to move on from Stetcher after this year and a deal built around Stetcher for Kapanen would be great for both teams I think.

The Canucks are going to have to move out a considerable bit of salary this offseason (Pearson, Baertschi, Sutter, etc.) or they'll lose some important pieces (Tanev and Markstrom) with nothing to replace them and the team will take a step back due to poor cap management.

I agree. I don't think Bowey is very good but between him and Goldobin, Im picking Bowey every time.
