Description
Honestly, COL was never in play for me. Everyone kept saying how much it makes sense for both sides, but in reality, it made sense for neither side. COL doesn't need a hall gamble when they are already loaded and they have studs coming up in their prospect pool. They can win with their current team right now and will only get better in the years to come. On the other hand, why would NJ want to trade with COL? They won't sniff at Byram, Makar, Newhook, etc. Which means youre left with timmons and kaut and bowers and some 1st round picks. COL was never the right trade partner because they aren't desperate. Hall is going to a team that is desperate because Shero is looking for the greatest return...

And that is Arizona. Chyka wants to make a splash and here it is. Soderstrom and 2 1sts is extremely reasonable considering that 2nd 1st is not a guarantee. They are also playing the yotes tonight so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

No. Soderstrom=Brannstrom and Soderstrom is valued insanely highly by Chayka... Stone>Hall, Stone got a second on top of Brannstrom, no way ARZ gives up TWO! firsts

Söderström is not equivalent to Brannstrom as a prospect based off of the analysis and rankings I’ve read. Wheeler and Pronman both have Brannstrom in the 30-40 range (he was higher last year at the time of the trade) and Söderström in the 100’s. That’s a pretty big gap. So Söderström and a first and second for Hall isn’t unreasonable IMO

it's kinda arguable b/c Soderstrom is having a good season so far in the SHL (9pts in 15 GP for a 18 Dman)

Hopefully not. Wasting two 1st on a rental is insanely. Hall is nowhere near his MVP year, and his played in 1 playoff series. For me, this deal would be an overpayment. No GM will be giving up their 1st in a deep draft year, without Hall signing a contract. I am ready to eat crow come the TDL.

With Avs' Big Three on the blueline being untouchable (Girard, Makar, Byram), I think Newhook is expandable if he's the key piece in a Hall trade with extension. However this kind of trade could backfire because the Avs need Caps space to resign Makar and Landeskog

I agree with your assessment. Many of Hall trades we see on CapFriendly are ridiculously in favour of the Devils. The Stone trade, Stone was at the TDL was better Hall and the trade came with an extension.

I do think that the devils if they can will get around a Brannstrom type prospect for Hall, but if they do they likely won't get much on top of him if anything

The other factor and I know its subjective, is how much of difference maker Hall is right now? Gee he gets PP time on the Devils and he's a six goal scorer. Just think there aren't going to many suitors for his services which will lower his trading value. It's the Devils who are desperate to make TDL deals with UFAs. Hall, Simmons, and Vatanen.
