Neal

Created by: Eli
Team: 2019-20 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 14, 2019
Published: Dec. 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Neal and Panik can each put up 40 points in a year with good linemates or basically none. Panik is four years younger, great defensively, and terrific on the penalty kill, at half the cap hit.

Holtby is arguably the best goalie over the last four playoff years: most wins, top five in GAA and SPCT.

Of all the goalies to ever play 50 playoff games, he's got the second-best all time save percentage, and the best active. But Smith can occasionally get hot?

At the NHL level, this is a huge win for Edmonton, and it gives them cap space to sign Holtby at I'd guess about an 8M cap hit for however many years his agent can talk them into.

The Caps get to add a good forward prospect and a pick, and they get to add a former 30 goal scorer having a good year...

I'm all for trading Holtby, but not to get Neal for the next 4 years at $5.75M.

Yeah. Paying anyone about $6M through age 37 is a lot.

Trade doesn’t make sense for either team. Oilers need top 6 scoring so we trade Neal for Panik who has 2 goals? And holtby is gonna cost way too much to resign so he basically a rental. So the Oilers decline. The Caps decline because they are still in contention for another cup run and while he’s showed some potential I don’t think they are comfortable letting Samsonov take the reigns just yet. And mike smith is struggling right now.

Thanks. Yeah. I based it on some OIlers fan posts talking about selling high on Neal while he's clicking on the power play with McDavid, and trying to upgrade in goal to contend. I don't think the Caps need Neal.

I'll try to post a more ideal Holtby trade on the Oilers side, to try to see what you're saying about cap space.

edit: okay.... without including Koskinen, it isn't easy. Have to let about five UFAs walk, and maybe still make a trade to clear some space if Benning and Bear are staying.
