I’ve been trading Gus to VGK just to get rid of annoying Habs fans recently. Works like a charm.

I really do think MB's making those trips to see if he thinks Gus would fit his team. It all depends on the return. I'd actually prefer sending Smith to MTL to help their 28th PK. Not sure how the pick would be affected, but Smith can at least play some pretty good PK.

Change Caggiula and Holm to Murphy and you have a deal.

They have the cap space and forward slot to accommodate.

However, it is hard for Zach Smith to kill penalties from inside of the box.

You're not getting Murphy and Shaw for Kap and Ceci. You're probably not getting Murphy straight up for Kap although based on needs I would lean to doing that trade.

We should definitely not trade both Shaw and Caggs, but one of them should be traded for sure.

We can do better on Lehner. Mrazek is a decent backup and we would probably have to swallow him or Reimer in any deal which is unfortunate as I think both Lankinen should get a chance to play backup next year. Mrazek or Reimer are definitely not starters. As such, even as a rental, Lehner will demand more then a 1st round pick and a backup goalie. The 3rd maybe should be a 4th and conditional to a 2nd or even 1st rounder if Lehner signs an extension. Top 5 goalies don't grow on trees and for Carolina, that is the difference of them being a cup team and not.

If you rejected Kap and Ceci for Murphy and another asset you don't want to rebuild. Murphy isn't anything overly special, he's good but he's not a game changer. Getting a fast forward who can grow with a young core is far more valuable to a rebuilding team than a stay at home defenceman.

Actually Murphy has been by far our best defenseman this season and has gotten better every single year in the league. His defensive prowess is something that all teams need, and I'm not willing to give him up for a forward who might become a top-six forward one day. Connor Murphy is 26 and entering his prime years as a defenseman in the NHL, his timeline fits within the Blackhawks competing in 2-3 years.

You might not see murphy in the same light, but the only view that matters for murphy is the Blackhawks. We will not trade him unless we get a bonafide top 6 winger back (Not saying from the leafs).

Well getting wingers for TO is just shuffling deck chairs. Murphy would be a must if they are parting with Kapanen otherwise it makes no sense.
