If Maurice Goes to Seattle

Created by: tsyls

Description
It’s been swirling around that Maurice is being eyed by Seattle to be their head coach. We also have been hearing rumblings that Wheeler will only ever play for Maurice until he retires. If Maurice does go to Seattle, could we possibly see wheeler waive his NMC? The jets would be compensated by receiving a draft pick in return for wheeler being selected in the expansion draft. This relieves WPG of his 8.25m cap hit on the back end of his career.

I personally wouldn’t mind if this happened.

I didn’t put much thought into the lines or signings. This is just more about the possibility of wheeler being gone!

**Pretend this is Seattle**

I don’t know what they’d have to give up, maybe a 1st at most but a second is more likely

Wheeler would be their C and would mentor the team into the future

Pretty sure they would take Pete DeBoer.

And, SJ isn’t paying one of its very few picks for an aging Wheeler.

You must not have eyes lmfao, go read the trade.

Also this is all based on rumour lol. Just speculation due to Friedman’s comments about Seattle being interested in Maurice.

I like Wheeler but what will playing value will Wheeler have in the October 2021. 35 years old with three years left on his deal. Seattle might be doing Jets a favourable by taking his 8.25m cap hit even if his playing value is high. I'm guessing Seattle ain't giving up a pick, and might even receive one.

Or Maurice and littles 15 million and no compensation wouldn’t hurt either. Still 2 years of speculation, would be interesting with Maurice being relatively young with a ton of experience, could be the coach from expansion right til some success. Hopefully there’s some jets success to make it more difficult.

Wheeler is still going to be a 70+ pt guy. He’s getting better as he ages and is an exceptional leader. He’ll still have value and him at 3x8.25 wouldn’t even be that bad lol. This isn’t doing the jets a favour. The jets lose one of their top scorers and their captain.

That’s not how expansion drafts work.

So either Wheeler waives his NMC and Jets leave him unprotected, Seattle selects him, no return payment.

Or Wheeler waives his NMC, Jets pay Seattle with picks/prospects to take him.

Any trade with a return coming back to Jets would be post draft.

My bad, I only figured they’d have something worked out where if Wheeler waived his NMC so he could go to Seattle to be with Maurice, that they’d send the jets a pick. Because realistically, even if wheeler waived his NMC the jets wouldn’t leave him unprotected. The only way they’d like him walk is if Seattle sent them a pick so they could take him...

You clearly missed it being Seattle and not SJ. Just apologize instead of acting rude

I'm in the minority but I'd rather keep Little then Wheeler, between his sob story whine fest to
Sara Orlesky at TSN or his recent whining to The Athletic about not getting any "ink" as he called it for his scoring prowess is just too much for me sorry.

Like is he more concerned with leading this group to a cup or the national media recognizing how good he is? Sounds like a guy who's pretty concerned about padding his personal stats but that's what I've always suspected, I think that's why he didn't want to be separated from Scheiffele, he knew that's what would get him the most points and by extension a fat payday.

Laine basically takes a shot at Little through the media and what does Bryan Little do, he takes the diplomatic high road and laughs it off without taking a shot back at Laine, if there's anyone that should have a letter on his jersey it's Little.

It'd be great for the Jets if Seattle took both Wheeler and Maurice, I wouldn't miss either and this team can finally move on, they really need a more modern coach, I swear Maurice is still coaching this team like it's 1997.. Lol.. And he constantly gets out coached when it really matters, had no answer for what Vegas was throwing at them and Berube tweaks his lines and gets results whereas Maurice tried basically nothing and put Hayes on the 4th line.. ?

@MisstheWhalers i agree with everything you said. I just don’t know who else is on the market that would be better than him. I wouldn’t be upset if Maurice got scooped up by Seattle though, also I would not be surprised if wheeler went with him.

I dont want Wheeler to go. I know he'll be "passed his prime" but he's also a gym rat and fitness freak. Some guys can buck the trend and maybe Wheeler is one of those guys.

It’ll be interesting to see if he’s still keeping up a 60+ pts pace in 2 years.

Also interesting to see where salaries might be for 60 point players. Guys could easily be north of 9
