I'd throw in an also retained Brendan Smith who blocks shots and fights and can play forward for no additional charge

i dont mind Smith but its and either or situation .
i almost took Smith first but its Staals size i like and i'm hoping our big hitter Fleury will spark him to use it .

i do like that he fights but Staal was a huge shot blocker for years helping Lunqvist a lot .
Smith's a hitter not a shot blocker and with Chariot,Weber,Petry and Fleury all dominant hitters we are looking for a person who can block 150-200 shots a year and play 70+ games

Montreal isn't going to give up a 2nd round pick for Staal. Sorry, but Montreal isn't interesting in acquiring rentals.

I think Weal and Kulak are better depth than Brodziak. Montreal rejects that as well.

I'd honestly rather call up Alzner than trade for Staal without any money going out.

If you're worried about a players Cap and not their Contribution then you're a little bit challenged .

we have had the top 5 most cap the past 3 years and havent spent it
we're the 2nd riches team in the league backed by one of the largest Beer manufacture's in North America

if you're worried about spending cap more then the level of their play you're kind of missing the point of Hockey in General

I think the Habs could take on Staal's contract and he could be an upgrade on Reilly but Habs shouldN,t have to send a pick. Marc Staal has given a lot of good years to the Rangers but his contract is now a liability so getting rid of it would be very valuable to the Rangers indeed. I think Marc Staal for Reilly and Rangers throw in a later pick and its a deal.

I'd drive Staal to the airport for that deal. NYR is my 2nd favorite team. And I live in Sweden.

Montreal: Looks at Karl Alzner and Dale Weise making $4.825 M in Laval.
You know what? We need more of that.

Staal f*cking sucks. Why would you give up a 2nd for him and then give away good pieces like Kulak and Weal for a scrub like Brodziak?

We give away '' good '' pieces like Kulak and Weal because Harris or Romanov will be here in April , possibily even both .

As far as Weal he has no place on this team with Cousins here
Cousins hits , blocks shots and battles ... Call me when Weal does anything like that .
There's a reason this year he's in Charles Hudon's spot from last year aka the Press Box .

Staals just being brought in to block shots and mentor
i gave a 2nd because retaining cap costs money and for VGK to retain 2m on Brassard they took a Prospect and a 3rd round pick .

i'm just gonna put it as a 5th in 2021 and see if people are more accepting given that with one eye closed he's produced more then Kulak in every avenue and been more reliable minutes wise .
