Paying them to take smith is different then selling though.

That’s a no from Canes. None of those players are “cap dumps”. Yes they add them to make $ work but they are not dumps. They all have value which makes it a large overpay on their part. Take out one of the 1sts....maybe.

Just moving them to make it work. Carolina needs are definitely a top 6 winger (preferably one that helps on defense, plays the board, and is tough) and more importantly a starting goalie. They are going to have to pay big for those types of players but IMO is exactly what they are missing to get a cup.

TVR and McGinn are UFA rentals with not much value and they may be able to move them to other teams for assets.

Reimer is a backup goalie and overpaid for what he brings.

Maybe the better move is for Carolina to move TVR and McGinn elsewhere for middle round picks but Lehner and Saad will cost them a 1st, 2nd and Suzuki and a conditional 1st if Lehner re-signs. That's a good offer for a team filling two big needs and immediately makes them a real cup contender.

Better move for them is one of their goalies and a 2nd for Raanta. And TVR and pick/prospect for a forward.

Raanta isn't going anywhere, why would he? AZ is in the thick of it and arguably due to the best goalie tandem in the league.

??‍♂️ Read it early this week. They were willing to make Raanta available.

It’s understandable but dicey. They need to make cap space. A backup making starter $ is a luxury they can’t afford. They already have 83m in salaries and want to upgrade forward. He has another year left that makes him more attractive then a rental. Also creates problems for them as Kuemper gets a raise next year. On the downside Kuemper has never been an ironman, if something happens to him they’d be screwed. Risky move.

Im starting to think Kubalik can be our Kapanen so I don't think we need to give up Murphy for that. I know they have different characteristics and KAP is a speedy winger we don't have.

Maybe if they increased that 3rd to a 2nd I would consider, after all Ceci is a dump but I'm putting more value into Murphy as he is looking pretty good as a top 4 RHD and certainly a top line D for TOR.

I think we should be able to get a straight 3rd for Maatta so would prefer that over Gagner and a 4th.

We could probably just buyout smith without having to lose the 4th round pick so would likely keep him around then dump him unless we needed cap space urgently.

As you know, I like the concept behind the moves. We need to stock up as we aren't going anywhere this year.
