We don’t need to give up anything for Kovalchuk, he will be released soon and we can get him for free (in terms of assets)

Both correct, he will be reliseased soon and likely sign with the bruins anyway (if they even want him), it was between the kings and bruins when he was returning, and they could sign him to a 1 year 1.5 to 2 million dollar deal.
The Hall trade would not involve the bruins best defensive rpospect (not to mention one of the better defensive prospects iin the league right now based on how he is playing). It is a rental and unless he has a deal in place for next year, the trade is worth less...
